Status: Incomplete
Rating: Low(ish)? I'd imagine?
Melissa was honor's program material. She'd always been honor's program material. She'd grown up practically teaching herself how to read in multiple languages. She studied hard and worked hard and deserved to be honored for that hard work.
Instead, she was feeling defeated.
The obstacle course hadn't been exactly what she'd been expecting when they'd told her they were going to issue a test for entrance to the honor's program. The obstacle course had beaten her. Handily. She was going to be severely bruised for the foreseeable future. Perhaps she'd get a pre-cog student to tell her exactly how long the outward humiliation would last. The inner turmoil, she was sure would outlive the physical marks, however. Nothing quite said 'failure' the way a soccer ball did as it was pelting you in the back of the head repeatedly.
The logistical puzzle had been a snap. Puzzles were her life's work. Puzzles were her raison d'etre! The puzzle had taken her practically no time at all and she'd felt incredibly good about the results of that aspect of the test.
But that wasn't the only thing they were going to be graded on and so she was obsessing over every bit of minutia of the physical exam while slumped over the kitchen table looking pathetic and broken.
