Who: Polyhymnia & Apollo
What: Shhhh, Apollo is a secret
Where: Apollo's House
When: Yesterday, dinner time
Warnings: None
Apollo sat his laptop aside and reached down to pat Elvis. It would be a terrible stretch to say that he was looking forward to these talks with his sisters. On the one hand, they were the only two he was even remotely sure about anymore and it would be nice to see them. On the other, he was probably going to just screw the whole thing up as soon as he opened his mouth. What did he want to talk to them about anyway? What did he have to say now, what *could* he say now, that he hadn't, or couldn't have said before?
Not a whole hell of a lot, by his estimation. Sigh. Maybe he'd go see if there was any unexpired beer left in the fridge before Polyhymnia showed up...
Twice Shiri had rushed out of the apartment she was currently calling home. On the second attempt, she kissed Adam goodbye on the cheek and dashed out with a covered plate of the eggplant parm she had cooked for dinner. She was going to have the second helping herself, but Apollo! It was by her musely balance that she managed to keep it level while riding a motorcycle at top speeds but now she was at the rundown home at Apollo dwelt.
Reaching the door, she took a deep breath and smoothed out her hair and clothing from the ride before she knocked. Knock~
As usual, Elvis answered the door first, barking and scratching in a way that, if he were just a bit more intelligent, might be able to actually open the door. He wasn't, though, which left Apollo to pull it open awkwardly with his hands full; one holding a beer bottle, and the other an open phone book. He used his foot to kick the door open further and hold it there, but had no limbs left to grab the dog before it launched itself at their visitor.
Whoops.
Hee hee. Luckily, Shiri liked dogs. Only caught by surprise for a moment, she secured the plate of eggplant like she was a world class waitress while bending down to give the puppy a vigorous petting. After a few moments, but not letting up on the puppy affection just yet, she looked up at the dog's master, “Hello.”
"All right, enough all ready; get back inside, Elvis." A distant part of his mind wondered if his dog had picked up his attention whoring habits from Apollo himself. Usually he just ignored that part of his mind.
Once the dog had scampered back inside, persumably to find something he'd chewed on with which to impress the company, Apollo stepped aside to let his sister in. "Hello."
With a warm smile, Shiri offered him the plate with its foil on it. “Do you want me to put this somewhere...”
Ooo. Foil. He gestured with the phone book towards the kitchen. "Just on the counter is fine..." He wanted to say he'd be eating it soon, but he probably should wait until they got all the serious stuff out of the way first.
The muse obeyed Apollo to the letter and placed the plate on the counter before turning to him, the warm smile never fading. Apollo called her! She was in his house and it wasn't some crazy crisis! Yay!
He followed her more slowly, as he skimmed through another page in the phone book. Mrr. This was going to take forever... Oh well. he dropped the book onto the counter and finished off his beer while he wondered why she was smiling at him like that...
Eheh.
It was not a hard mystery. She liked smiling at him like that. With his hands free now, she stepped forward and draped her arms around his shoulders, “You look busy...”
Shrug. "Looking for a contractor; this place needs more than a coat of paint..." He frowned a little as he tossed his empty bottle into the trash. He was going to miss the old rundown place once all the repairs were over.
“Repairs?” Did this mean he would stop moping and brooding too? Was it also symbolic? She lit up at the thought that maybe Apollo would be happy, “If you so wish it, I am glad.”
Grimace. "Yeah. My new...roommate doesn't really find 'vacant lot' a very appealing decor to live in..." He was definately going to have to look into making D make the whole thing up to him somehow...
Shiri's eyebrows went up in surprise, “Roommate? “
"Yeah...You know, someone that lives with you?" And has sex with you, and...er. Okay, so in normal situations a roommate wouldn't do that, but he wasn't sure he was really up to admitting that D was his boyfriend to any member of his family just yet.
“Oh.” The smile still not disappear. Not yet. She was unsure, so she might as well remain happy. After all, she was still in his presence, “Does your roommate make you happy?”
Apollo leaned against the counter and plucked the sunglasses off the top of his head. "...Yeah, I guess you could say that..." He fidgeted with the glasses, a little unsure of the situation himself. He didn't want to seem overly...sappy about the whole thing, but he didn't want to do D a disservice either...Heh.
Shiri was delighted and squeezed her brother tightly, “I am so happy for you then... I think. I think that means you are happy...” She eased away just a fraction of an inch to look him in the eyes. Right?
He was still frowning slightly. "Well...not in the 'True happiness has found me; I have no more problems!' kind of happy, but...the 'I am slightly better off than I was before' kind..." Eheh.
“Good enough!” Because it was. She gave him another loving squeeze and a quick kiss to his cheek and then his other cheek.
Apollo patted her awkwardly before gently prying her off him. "Look, before you go getting all excited about everything, we should probably...get everything else out of the way first..."
Uh oh. Shiri calmed as she implied she shook and took a moment to look at him. What could he possibly say? “Okay, [Beloved]. What is it? I want to get back to hugging you.”
Sigh. "I wanted to apologize...for lying to you. I can't...exactly explain why I did it, except maybe to say I just didn't want you to worry...or something. It's all complicated, I think..." He frowned again; he still couldn't bring himself to come out and say what was really wrong, mostly, he supposed, because he still hadn't cleared the whole mess up for himself yet. "I know I probably shouldn't have done it, all things considered, but...things might have been worse, in the long run, if I hadn't..."
Shiri had a feeling she was missing something, “Lying to me?”
"Not about anything important. Just...about how I was feeling. Or if I was angry with you. I just...didn't want you to be upset..." Shrug.
Now she was confused, “Wait... were you lying about being angry at me?” Because he had been pretty clear about that much. If that had all been acting... well, it was impressive even for a god.
"Well no. I was lying about not being angry at you...even if I was." All in an effort to solve problems swiftly and try to move on. Heh.
The muse flinched a little but nodded. That made more sense. He had been more angry at her than he had let on. Her smile faded but only because she remembered how he had yelled at her. How often he had pulled away from her... and that was him holding back. But... “But is now different?”
"Out of all my sisters, you and Erato are the only ones I'm even remotely sure of anymore. Even if I wanted to, I couldn't be angry at either of you anymore..." No really.
The smile returned instantly. She shone like a candle in a dark room, “You do not know how happy that makes me to hear...”
Apollo held up a hand. "That being said...I think it would be best if I just...didn't see any of the others anymore. It's not...dismissing them, exactly, but it certainly avoids drama. I tried...to fix things with Melpomene like everyone wanted, and it just ended up worse. It's...it's not worth it; I don't know what to do anymore, so I just...won't do anything."
Shiri grew pensive as she considered the musagetes' words. As she spoke, she reached out and traced her fingers along the edges of his held up hand. “All of the others? Euterpe? Thalia? Clio? Calliope?” Sure, she just listed them, but there was something about using their names.
Cringe. Calliope was here now too? Oh that was lovely. It was probably better if he tried to avoid meeting her all together. "Euterpe has seemed uninterested in me since I healed her hand. I've probably disappointed Thalia far too much to fix now. Clio would rather I die, and I think it's probably better if Calliope didn't know who I was in this life."
“So, it is like you are a special secret then?” It is not like she wasn't keeping other secrets from her sisters. She could definitely keep this one without blinking an eye.
"Kind of. I guess." Er...how to put this... "I just...don't know how to deal with them anymore, and if all that is going to happen when we meet is that things get worse, then...none of us should bother, right? "
“But...” Shiri let out a soft breath as she eased close to him again, putting her arms back around his shoulders loosely. “I thought I had been a problem, too. How am I different?”
"Honestly...the thing with you and Adam still bothers me a lot, but you, most of all, have always made the effort to make me feel...normal. As if things hadn't changed so much...and I know that at times I didn't seem as though I appriciated it, but I didn't overlook it either..." Sigh.
Shiri didn't quite like that first sentence but the rest of it broke her little muse heart in the best possible way. She was pretty sure it was been shattered with rainbows to be rebuilt bigger... stronger. Mutely, she wiped away the few tears of happiness that had slipped down her pale cheeks and then nuzzled Apollo, “I have wanted to hear that for so long...”
Apollo hugged her lightly in return. "I just hope that you realize that...things have changed, as much as I hate to say it, and there really is no going back to the way things were..."
Her eyes directly behind him she looked at her pale skin. Things had changed and they would never be the same... She told herself that all the time. Nodding, she placed a kiss to the side of his throat before responding, “Do you still love me?”
"Of course I do." They wouldn't be having this conversation if he didn't!
There was another kiss pressed to his throat in response to it, “[Then it has not changed enough for me to worry. You are talking to the sister who would daydream about sitting beside you...]”
He shook his head a little, almost laughing. "I think you should excercise your imagination a little more; that's kinda boring, don't you think?"
Her hands slipped from his shoulders, down his back to his hips, “I like simple things somethings, but... I suppose I could think of better daydreams if you so wish...”
"I'm just saying...sitting next to me is pretty boring." He wasn't sure how Elvis did it all the time.
“I like to sit.” It would have been a pout, but Shiri currently had her hands on Apollo's hips so such things were impossible for her at the moment. She was beyond delighted no matter what right now, “You sitting in the sun is one of the most beautiful things I can imagine.”
"I think your bias makes you give me a little too much credit..." He still wasn't feeling especially...attractive. Crazy, right?
The muse stepped back a little and gave a long and obvious look over, “I do not think so.”
"Oh?" It never hurt to get some reassurance, after all.
Her white fingers moved and then trailed down his chest as she smiled up at him, peeking out behind a few wisps of whiter hair. “No. Not at all, [Beautiful One.]”
Ha. "If you say so..." Just go with it.
“[Oh, I do.]” She whispered into his ear, “[Do you want me to keep saying it? I could sing of it...]”
Smirk. "Could I eat dinner first~?" Food would be nice...
Shiri smirked right back, “Sure. I will just sit right next to you, if you do not mind.”
"As long as you don't stare at me while I eat..." Because that was a little unnerving...
“As long as you are not sitting in the sun.” She murmured in reply, “If you sit in the sun, I can make no promises... Of course, it is dark outside so you are safe.”
"Then that's not really a problem then...." Even he couldn't make the sun appear out of nowhere, though he liked to think he could have back in the day.
She pressed another kiss to his throat before taking him by the hand to lead him to a chair, “Sit. I will heat it up for you.”
He let himself be led to the table and pushed into the seat. Heh. "If you insist..." Hey, why not.
Shiri took the foil off the eggplant parm and then looked around the kitchen. She wasn't exactly sure any of this stuff worked, even though she had lived here for two weeks at one point. “Um, I will heat it up as long as you tell me how...”
"Microwave?" Snerk. True, the stove was a little dodgey, but he didn't exactly cook much...so the microwave was relatively new. He supposed he'd have to...get a whole new kitchen before D moved in too... He rested his chin in his hand and stared out the window while his dinner was heated. At least this whole meeting thing had gone well... Things were...looking up?
Summary: Apollo has something to tell Shiri. She goes to him to hear it. Then he eats eggplant.
