Who: Adam & Shiri
What: Moving into the Summer Apartment
Where: Their Summer Place
When: Recent
Warnings: None
The dorms had finally kicked most of its students out. Unceremoniously, which upset the muse on a number of levels. However, she was able to Tetris into Adam's car all of his possessions and everything of hers that she couldn't carry herself. It was not the best use of divine abilities but oh well.
For now, she sat outside the door of the apartment waiting, humming a little in harmony with a friendly bird in a tree she could not see… or maybe it was a recording. It was hard to tell with the wall interfering with the sound as it was. She had gotten to the summer apartment first on her bike and now sat beside the possessions she brought on her own.
Her humming grew louder as the sound of the bird singing softened, as if to encourage it. Anything to have something ring out besides the sounds of engines in the streets…
Adam had gotten stuck behind one of those drivers who had no idea where it was that they were going, and while it didn't bother him really, it did slow him down. Finding the parking spot that was meant for him, he grabbed a box to take up to the space and climbed the stairs.
Seeing Shiri sitting outside of the tiny apartment, he smiled and walked the short distance to her. "Hey," he smiled, and shifted the box to get his keys to the door, and letting it swing wide open. There wasn't much to the space. A tiny area in the front to be called a living room that led to a mini hallway with the kitchen space, then small bathroom, and finally the bedroom on the end. It was fairly cheap, probably because it was small, but it'd be enough for the two of them. He stepped to the side to let her enter.
Shiri stood and slung the military issue ALICE pack, vintage Vietnam, complete with sleeping bag, over her shoulder and grabbed her cycle helmet before smiling in greeting and placing a kiss to his cheek. Only then did she move passed him to enter the small apartment and look around. It was small, but she had been in worse. If she moved things around it would be look bigger, but…
The muse yawned and half-chucked, half-placed her pack on the couch as she sat on the arm of it to look back at the mortal, "I beat you here."
He moved past her just slightly to put the box down on the floor by the wall. There wasn't much furniture -- some pieces that has been left behind really -- and moved back to where she was seated, kissing her forehead as was his habit before smiling at her. "You did. I got caught behind a slow driver."
"So…" Shiri looked around even as she placed a hand absently on his chest. The apartment did seem to be furnished in the oddest of ways. She swore she could see kitchen chairs but no table… "Does this place come with a bed or is it just this couch?"
He shook his head. "No bed. Not even a mattress, so we might want to go buy an air bed." Or foam, or something that they could sleep on besides the floor. The couch didn't look exactly long or wide.
Shiri was trying not to laugh. She really was, but the laughter was bubbling beneath her skin. It started deep down and rose higher and higher. She could feel it tickling her insides and that just wasn't fair because that wasn't helping her resist at all. "Quite an oversight, my knight. We went from two possible beds to none."
Adam shrugged, grinning. It was hard to get him to panic about anything. "I planned to buy one today." He also hadn't been sure what furniture was still going to be there, as the landlord had something about the guy coming back to get a few stray items. Oh well.
"And what would you do with it after the summer?" This whole idea intrigued Shiri. Having an apartment for a summer… So temporary but so much hassle. She gripped his shirt and tugged him a little closer.
His hands came to rest on the couch arm on either side of her as he shifted closer and bent near her. "I bundle it up and pack it away until I need it again." They weren't that big.
Right, air mattress. The muse had only ever seen them on commercials and that had only been once. But she would consider this more later. There was a mortal surrounding her and… all their possessions for the most part were outside, "We should probably move in."
"Probably." He grinned and bent closer, until he was able to give her a proper kiss. The boxes could stay in the car for a few minutes. Wasn't making out in the new apartment step one before unloading?
She wasn't sure. She knew that was the rules when the man finally finished building the house… Shiri was unsure if the same applied. But she returned the kiss all the same and wrapped her arms around him. "If someone steals my guitar, I will be upset."
He arched an eyebrow at her, pulling back just enough to do so before kissing her forehead. "Alright." Pulling back, he intended to go and see that her guitar, at minimum, made it into the apartment, along with his computer and other key items.
As he left, she allowed herself to fall backwards onto the couch and promptly sneezed as some of the dust went directly up her nose. This couch had been sitting for a while it seemed… Bothersome but that didn't make her move at all. She simply laid there with her legs covered in a striped skirt hanging over the arm of the couch. She had little to do besides wait for her beloved possessions: harp, guitar, mortal...
And, after a few minutes, they were all making their return. His computer was tucked in its case, hanging on his shoulder as the cases for the instruments were in either hand. There wasn't much else he could carry with his hands this full, and as he returned, he looked for a safe place to put everything.
Hearing the door open, the muse began to make wordless sounds, beckoning him to her. Shiri had gotten into a habit of forgoing language for sounds when she could get away with it and she was doing it again, while she reached for him… even if that gesture was slightly obscured by the back of the couch.
He was coming! Adam had learned to read the gestures and sounds better and better, though he didn't always get it right. Unsure what exactly she wanted, he walked over with the items still in hand closer to the couch, arching an eyebrow at her.
All three? Yes! Shiri reached out, lazily not sitting up, and brought either of her hands to her guitar and harp, but then frowned. Not enough hands to touch him, too… She brought her eyes to him and made the same wordless sound. Closer…
Smirking, he moved closer and set the cases next to the couch for her. "Anything else that needs to come in right now?"
Shaking her head, she made the same beckoning sound again, but this time sat up a little to give him room on the couch to join her. She had realized the flaw in her 'come closer' plan; she had consumed most of the couch between her and her bag. There were not enough closer places.
Removing his computer as well, he set this to the ground and came closer as beckoned, finding a spot and claiming it as he watched her, waiting for her to decide exactly what she wanted just now.
Laying back so her head rested on his lap and she looked up at him, she smiled. Ah, touching all three, guitar, harp and mortal, at once. Success! But now she could get back to regular conversation, "Did you guess I was coming with you before I started to load my things into your car?"
Her head in his lap, he began to pet it, brushing her hair away from her face as he peered down at her. Had he? It'd become habit to think of them as a pair, and while he didn't assume that she would want to do something because he was, he had figured without thinking about it that she would be around at least part of the time. "I knew you'd be spending time here..."
"Aww, I like it better when me moving in is a surprise…" Instinctively, she nuzzled into the hand that was petting her. Oh well, Adam was special. She had pretty much moved into his dorm months before this. That really destroyed the element of surprise.
He stroked a finger to her cheek as he smiled. "I didn't know you'd be living with me..." He tried. She had more the enough sisters to ask, right?
"Nice try." Her mortal was sweet and she shifted a little to kiss that finger to imply as much. Just saying things for her sake… Adorable. Maybe she should go and buy that basket to put him in. They could use it as a bed. It was something to consider, "You knew, but thank you…"
A smile at her action. "I knew you'd want the choice. We had fun house sitting." And while this wasn't a nice house on the beach, it would be a space for the two of them as she wished.
"I did like playing house…" The apartment was small and the outside was noisy with traffic, but on the plus side they wouldn't have to worry about tracking sand in. Of course, her stereo was going to need to be on always.. The car noises were going to bother her to no end. "Do we know if the stove works? Because it is going to make cooking for you harder…" But not impossible.
"I haven't tested them yet. They should." If they didn't, that was one thing he would get the landlord to fix. He needed a working kitchen as part of his rent.
Now she finally giggled. She couldn't resist it any longer. The image in her mind's eye had become too funny and silly to hold back the musical sound. Reaching up, she gently stroked his cheek, "I imagined there would not even be a stove. Just a hole for one with all the connections there."
Now he arched an eyebrow at her and smirked. "It's fairly standard. There's a fridge also." He'd need to check it and make sure it was turned on though.
"So, what you are saying is, we will not have to build a small fire in a metal pot to cook with?" Shiri was now just coming up with ridiculous ideas, them dancing in her mind along with a melody sung by… hey, the bird was singing again! She grinned now and traced his lips softly before letting her arm fall back absently to her stretched out body.
Adam chuckled at the imagery and bent so he could kiss her forehead. "No, [my lady]. Then we might as well go camping..." Not that they wouldn't as it was. There would be time for that, but the apartment made the idea of living actually together that much easier. Even if they would have to juggle schedules a bit.
Her eyes slowly scanned the living room area again. It was small but relatively empty. She could only assume the bedroom was much the same Proper placement of minimal furniture would make this place look larger. The muse was looking for something and her words were beginning to autopilot, "Did you tell your mother that we were living together?"
"I told her we might be." He had tried to not sound like she was committed to the choice when it hadn't been officially declared, despite merely assuming that she would be. Especially with his mother. His friends had taken the shrug and grin into their own imaginations, then let it slide. "I think she's only concerned it will make her a grandmother."
The last sentence made her search for 'something' cease for a moment, "Did she now?"
Adam chuckled again, resting a hand on her stomach, idly stroking it through the fabric with his thumb. "She's my mother. Mothers worry."
And Shiri tensed just slightly under his touch. There was something unnerving about him stroking her stomach in such a manner while having this conversation, but she continued to watch him with the same untroubled, amused smile, "I suppose you told her there was nothing to worry about and your were a responsible son?"
"Of course." An eyebrow arched. With her head in his lap, it was simply the easiest place for his hand to rest, not noticing any other meaning that may go with it. "You nearly lived with me at the dorms..." he pointed out. And that was with Sam in the next room.
The muse relaxed completely now, her untroubled grin no longer a skillful act. "It was an eventful year for you. I suppose you did not also tell her you became a pagan priest…" Oh, if he had though, she wanted that story immediately. But it was doubtful so went back to scanning the room…
"No." He grinned once more and scanned the room as well, wondering what she was looking for.
What she was looking for was not in this room. The fact that she didn't exactly know what she was looking for was not the point… It was not here. And that fact made her pop up from the couch and quickly finding her feet began to wander down the short hallway to the bedroom. Maybe it would be there… whatever it was.
Okay.. Ever the faithful, once Shiri was up and moving, Adam followed shortly behind, leaning against the doorframe as she stepped into the rather bare room that would be the bedroom. It was bigger then the living room at least. He waited quietly to watch her reaction.
Shiri's eyes lit up. She had found what she was looking for. On one side of the room was a small enclave a few feet deep with a bar some feet off the ground. Clearly, it was meant to be a doorless closet with the bar to hang clothes, but she approached it quietly and pensively.
Curious, he stood where he was and watched as she approached the closet. He didn't think it was the normal love for closets some women might have, and briefly wondered what it might be. He'd wait to find out.
She stepped aside so he could be beside her as she heard him approach and then whispered, "Kneel. I want to see something…"
He moved near to her, and did as she asked without question, arching an eyebrow and peering up to her.
Oh, she had found what she was looking for indeed. Pleased beyond words even at the thought, she sat down beside him and kissed his cheek. "How good are you at building things?" she then whispered against his skin, her lips lingering there from the kiss.
He blinked, considering. "I can probably make something basic." He hadn't needed to build anything more then frames for canvases, with middle school shop being the only other formal experience he had. He kept himself still though, waiting to see what she would request.
She lowered her eyes then and immediately began to blush. Her head titled down and her shoulders lifted in sudden embarrassment that she couldn't place. Maybe because her request would be so forward and blunt, or maybe because it was such a sudden desire that would mean so much… She didn't know. Not at the moment, anyhow. Instead, she peeked up at him and softly, ever so softly asked, "Would you build me an altar? It would look nice here…"
Softly, his hand brushed her hair away from her face, clearing it away so that he could press his own kiss to her forehead. "If you wish..." She'd have to tell him how to build it, as she had taught him everything else, but it seemed a rather reasonable request.
It her made clap her hands and giggle before throwing her arms around him to give him a huge hug.
Adam laughed at her reaction, and caught her in his arms, pulling her close to him in a returned hug.
Shiri hugged him for what might have been a long time, she couldn't be overly sure about that, but finally pulled back enough to stare into his eyes. She might as well have been glowing with glee. "Thank you…. [Thank you]."
He grinned back at her, brushing her hair back and rather happy himself. She could be so easy to make happy sometimes. "[You are welcome.... My goddess...]"
The ancient language only made her blush more. He was getting very good at speaking it… at least to her. Shiri at least liked what he was able to say. "If I did not know better, I would think you were trying to seduce me into bed but…" With a smirk, she motioned to the lack of bed.
A glance over her shoulder as if to further examine this idea, and he shrugged. "We'll get one later." They probably didn't have space for it in the car just now anyway.
Shifting closer, she rested her head against his chest and took his arms wrapping them around her. With the promise of an altar, Shiri was all warm and bubbly inside… more than usual. "It does not matter. Whenever we do, that will be fine."
As desired, he wrapped his arms about her, pulling her close to him as he settle better into a sitting position on the floor of the empty room. "What would you like to do now?"
She nuzzled against him. Adam was always planning for activities. It more often than not took her by surprised. "Is there something wrong with this?"
He smiled, and rubbed one hand against her back. "No." Well, there were the items to still move in, but there was no reason that couldn't wait for a while.
The muse had no doubt she was just going to put her suitcases somewhere and live out of them until August. Sure, it was four months but… it seemed silly to buy dressers for four months. Her eyes closed contented at his touch.
He would probably do much the same, or maybe buy some stackable crates that could be used inside. It would depend on what they saw while they were out buying the air mattress. Maybe they'd find something at a second hand shop. For now, he was content to hold her, rubbing her back slowly as she settled against him. There was no rush.
Summary: Spring Semester at the University of Miami is officially over and Adam and Shiri are forced to move from the dorms and into a small summer hideaway. They barely unpack before Shiri has Adam planning on building something: an altar to her.
