Who: Mel and Artemis
What: Check Up!
Where: Mel and Nick's House
When: Friday 11th (?) Morning
Warnings: Sprinkling of Emo. Nothing really.
Artemis was bubbling with excitement. So Mel thought she was pregnant, huh? This should be interesting. She still had no car, so she walked to Mel's place. She had grown quite fond of walking everywhere. Arriving, she knocked at the door.
Inside the house, there was a brief bark, shortly after the knock on the door. Somewhere within the home, Mel was being warned that someone else was there. A voice called from the patio above the blondes head. "Be right there!" And, after a few moments, she was. A yellow lab/golden retriever looking dog wagging his tail at the young looking woman's side. An eyebrow arched. "[Moon Twin?]"
"[Melpomene?]" she asked, confirming her own identity with a bright smile. She looked down at the dog, giving him a wink.
Mel nodded and backed up to let her in. "Come on in. Do you want something to drink?" She gently tried to push Shadow back and away, but the mutt was far more interested in investigating this new person. He sniffed, curious, and his tail began to wag even harder in excitement. This person was totally a friend!
Artemis entered the house, shutting the door behind herself. "I'm fine," she said, her brogue thick with a mixture of german and irish. She tended to fall into that when comfortable. She knelt beside the dog, petting his head. "Hello Shadow," she said, instinctively knowing his name.
There was a brief blink from the muse, wondering if she'd said the name aloud or not. Ah, right, dog. Hopefully Artemis wouldn't seduce him away from her. She liked him, and he'd been a good friend. She wasn't entirely sure what to say just yet though, and watched as Shadow pressed into the affection, a bundle of energy, looking like he was ready to beg to play a game with the Huntress.
Artemis laughed her musical laugh. "He's great," she said, standing. "Where did you find him?" She didn't know if Mel was about smalltalk or not.
"On the street... He found my sisters and I." She petter him lovingly on the head, and Shadow twisted to lick her hand in a kiss. The muse smiled.
Artemis also smiled, watching the two. "He is a good companion for you," she pointed out, though there was something a bit odd about him. Like he had been blessed.
She nodded. "He's smart." She gave him a last pet on the head before looking up to her fellow goddess. "Do you want to go into the living room or anything?"
She nodded. "If you want," she said, eyeing Mel's stomach speculatively. She needed to be closer...
It seemed the best place, as far as Mel could think of, so she lead through the main level of the building and into the open living room, Shadow staying close and being excited between both woman. She gestured to the room at large before plopping herself down on the couch.
Artemis followed suit and sat beside her. "You are glowing," he pointed out, her eyes falling to the woman's belly.
"Glowing?" She blinked, and looked down at her own stomach. How glad she was to be living with a mortal who knew her secret. "I shouldn't be too far along... but since I woke up puking, I think it's safe to say that I'm probably carrying..."
Artemis reached out her hands and, without permission, placed them on Mel's stomach. "You are definitely pregnant," she said. "Do you know when you conceived?"
Normally, she wasn't one to be bashful, but there was the faintest blush on Mel's cheeks as she thought about Greece. "Roughly. The earliest would probably be the 23rd."
"Hmm... so you are roughly 17 days," she said, biting her lip and leaning back against the couch. "May I ask who the father is?"
17 days and puking... There were at least a few perks to being a goddess. "Nick, the mortal that I'm living with." No one else fit the time frame either.
"Are you together?" she asked, being blunt as usual. It was her nature, after all.
"Yeah, since..." Dang, when was it? "November." She shrugged, and watched as Shadow jumped up on the couch in the narrow space between the two women, resting his head on Mel's lap in his normal fashion. "He got this place from his father for Valentine's Day."
"Oh... okay. Are you ready for a child with this mortal?" she asked, arching her delicately curved brow at Mel. This was an odd conversation for them to be having...
"We've talked about it. We actually waited so that the timing wouldn't look like it had to be someone else's instead." Yes, they had planned this at least some. "And we see Hestia with the twins regularly, so he's been around babies." She gave a small frown to the goddess. "Is that what you mean?"
"Yes. I just want to be sure you are ready. Raising a child, especially with a mortal, is very hard for us," she said, watching Mel closely. She didn't want any of the ones in her family to get hurt... by anyone.
Don't cringe, don't cringe, don't cringe! It was a fight, but Mel managed not to, turning to look down at Shadow instead of meeting the other's eyes. "I know. We'll do the best we can for her." Mel was assuming the sex.
"That you will. She will be strong, like her mother," she said knowingly. "You will see... and you will be a good mother as well."
Mel snorted, she couldn't help it! "[You haven't seen me mother recently. I do no better then I did with my firsts.]"
"So, you think that you will be a bad mother?" she asked, arching her brow.
"I think it has little to do with me as a mother, and more to do with the way the Fates love a tragedy." She scratched Shadow on the head, and he liked her hand, trying to comfort.
With a sigh, Artemis nodded. "I just know what I feel, Mel. You are going to be great this time around and your little girl will be strong."
Mel raised her eyes. "So it's a girl and she's healthy?" It was best to be sure.
"Yes," Art said, beaming with pride. She loves giving good news.
Now the muse was able to give a faint smile. Part of her had been hoping for a boy, but she'd had nothing but girls before, why would it change now? "Thanks. Does this mean I can call you when it's actually time to deliver?"
She nodded. "If that is what you wish. You know, you can actually call me at any time," she offered. It did get lonely sometimes.
Now Mel arched an eyebrow. "You sound like you don't get out a lot."
"I don't. Mainly I am helping Athena with the new shop or randomly meeting people in the streets," she said with a shrug.
"What type of shop?" And did they need any art? Mel couldn't help having art on her brain. She needed to sell some of it.
"A novelty and book store," she said, brightening significantly.
"That sounds fun. Anything specific?" Maybe Mel could sell masks. Though she doubted that the right kind o person to afford it would be coming in.
Art shrugged. "No, unfortunately. I have been searching for things for my side, the novelty part, for weeks. Any ideas?" she asked, crossing her legs under her and turning toward Mel.
"You could just look around and see what other shops have. I tend to make art still, and some high quality masks." When it was the muse of Tragedy and Drama, you kind of expected something like masks to be high quality. "You could pick a theme. Like... wild spaces. Sell things that have to do with that."
She nodded. "Perhaps I should use a Greek theme... since we are Greek," she said with a small laugh.
"Maybe. We don't want to make things too obvious though either. Enemies around." Or so she'd been told. The thought of the attacks Hades had mentioned made her a bit worried once more.
She nodded. "I have heard bits and pieces about that, but I honestly don't know the whole story," she said, frowning a bit.
"Athena might," Mel mentioned, as there was little that she knew herself.
"Athena needs to talk to me more," she said, pouting now.
"She probably gets busy." Not that Mel had talked to the goddess at all, but she had also had no real reason to.
"She is overseeing construction, so we just tend to miss one another at the house," she said, idly petting Shadow now.
Ok, distraction time. Noticing how the goddess was petting the dog, an idea came to the muse. "Do you want to take him out for a walk?"
"Me? You want me to walk your dog?" she asked, arching her brow.
"We can walk him together. He likes to get out," she offered with a shrug, and Shadow looked up hopeful. Walk?
Artemis beamed. She needed a dog desperately. In seconds, she was up off the couch. "Let's!" she said cheerfully.
That was easy enough. Shadow was up and following her, already leading the way to the front door with his tail wagging. A ball just needed to be found. Mel followed as well, grabbing his leash a tennis ball from near the door. It was the least she could offer.
Artemis just followed along, not knowing if she should take the leash and walk Shadow or not. She could sense that he didn't really need the leash.
He didn't, but Mel tended to keep it for appearances. The dog had a tendency to wander if she wasn't careful. Everyone out the door, she closed it behind them, and let Shadow lead the way to his favorite park.
Summary: Artemis comes to check on Mel and baby.
