Who: Adam and Shiri
What: 3 years...
Where: Home
When: BACKDATED Sunday, Dec 5th
Warning: Fluff?
Adam had called in a favor to have space to work on his project for Shiri. He knew that she'd peek through anything left out, so he tended to work on it when she was out, and wouldn't realize how long he was out of the house as well.
However, now it was in his car, completely and wrapped in a soft bit of fabric. Stretching, Adam peered at the clock beside their bed, and slowly got up. Throwing on a pair of jeans, he started to pad barefoot through the house, half awake, searching for his girlfriend. He knew exactly what day it was, and wondered how long he'd have to keep the gift a secret.
Eventually, Adam would learn all he had to do was simply tell her not to look at something or go somewhere, but until that day she would snoop like the curious muse she was... However, for now, she was dealing with her own secrets and hiding them – ones that had nothing to do with Adam and managed to climb and then into the cramped space that was supposedly an attic.
In her own scampering above, she could hear his movement below and smirked, waiting. Once she heard him in the hallway, she called through the ceiling, “I am on to you.”
Adam froze, and looked around him. His eyebrows rose, as he tried to think where exactly the sound was coming from. "On to me?" he asked, raising his voice to be heard.
“Yes. On to you.” Shiri also knew what exactly this day it was. She wasn't going to forget it three years in a row. Scurrying across the cramped space, she paused where the drop door was, “On to you so much.”
His head moved to follow the sound until he was turned to face her. He crossed his arms over his chest, and grinned at his girlfriend. "What am I doing then?"
“You know what...” Shiri smiled at him and made sure the little drop stairs wouldn't hit him as she looked to him upside from the ceiling. Only then did she come down from the 'attic' and stand in front of him. “Sleeping in was probably to try to trick me.”
He blinked at her. "I always sleep in..." Walking forward, he wrapped his arms around her and placed a kiss on the top of her head. "I'm surprised you didn't wake me up though, if you think I'm trying to trick you."
In return, Shiri draped her arms around his shoulders and pressed close to him, “I do not mind you trying to trick me...”
"Good." He grinned at her. "So what am I planning, if you are on to me?"
She nuzzled against him in quiet hope that she was right about all of this. While she had no doubt that he wouldn't have forgotten their anniversary as he had come up with it and had a better track record with it, she still couldn't help but hope she was right... Otherwise, this was going to get awkward, “Some surprise for our anniversary.”
He chuckled and rubbed her back. "I guess it won't be such a surprise then, will it?" he offered. "I haven't made plans for dinner yet though, so you still have time to get a say in that..." though he did have a place he wanted to use, if she didn't.
Shiri giggled against him, “You like taking me out. How do you want to show me off tonight?”
Adam paused and seemed to consider, then shrugged. "It depends on where we go. Do you need any new clothes or anything?"
“Where do you want to go?” she asked, pulling away just enough to catch his eyes were her own, “You must have plans...”
He smirked. "There's a cafe type restaurant above an art gallery near the water." He shrugged. He'd seen it while trying to spot some different places to show his work at one point.
Restaurant above an art gallery near the water? This cafe might as well have had a sign on it saying “Muses come here”. Shiri lit up at the suggestion, a bright smile about her face. “You had some doubt I would not want to go there, my knight?”
"It's not fancy... They have fairly general fare." He shrugged, then reached up and brushed her face as he grinned. "Should I call and see if we need to save a table?"
“Not fancy means I do not have to change then,” Shiri murmured as she leaned into his touch, basking in his affection. The longer he slept in, the more she wanted to bask when he woke up and today was no different than any other in that regard. But she was curious about his question... this was his surprise but he wasn't sure if they had to save a table? Hmm... “If you think we have to, then we should.”
"I don't know how busy they get," he mentioned, resting his hands around her waist once again. He glanced to see what she was wearing, and had to agree it'd probably be good enough. And if she wasn't asking for a reason to dress up... Well, he wouldn't worry about it. "I'll have to look up the name.”
Shiri was just too pleased with herself that she remembered this year and wouldn't have to forgo being the daughter of Mnemosyne, goddess of memory, to worry about dressing up. Rising to her tiptoes, she kissed him lightly before asking, “Does that mean I have to let you go to make the phone call and look up names?”
He raised his eyebrows as he peered down at her. "It would make things easier."
With a sigh, she released him. Shiri may have released him without further debate but that didn't stop her from pouting about it.
Adam grinned and picked her up briefly, kissing her before placing her down again and releasing her, as he turned to search out the number.
Giggling even as she was placed back down, Shiri reached out to him and let her fingers trail along the back of his shoulders as she walked passed him, “When you are done, I will be on the couch.” The thought that this phone call could be just an excuse to set off some surprise chain of events had crossed her mind and she didn't want her surprise ruined too soon... whatever it was.
Instead, she moved passed him and laid down on the couch, pulling the heavy quilt over her as she curled up. Her eyes slipped shut as a proud little smile snuck, unknowingly upon her face. She hadn't forgotten again this year...
He wasn't that sneaky this year, and really only had one thing planned. So, he set off to his computer and quickly looked up the number for the restaurant and made the phone call.
A short bit later, he was stepping from his room and heading out to his car. When he came back in, an item wrapped in soft fabric was placed in the entryway before he went to the living room and his curled up girlfriend. Smiling, he sat at the edge of the couch, and gently rubbed her leg through the heavy quilt. "Did you want to do anything today before dinner?"
Invent a way to to go dinner without needing to get into his car. If only Pegasus was around and riding him wouldn't cause a huge scene. Shiri slowly opened her eyes at his touch and scooted closer to the back of the couch to give him more room to sit. Something caught her eyes... something was in the entryway... “What is that?” she pointed from beneath the quilt.
Though he didn't truly need to turn to look, Adam did so anyway, then glanced back to her with a smile. "A gift, when you want it," he said simply.
“I want it and you holding me on this couch...” She reached out with both hands now, straining with all her might to will both the gift to her and Adam to wrap his arms around her as she opened it. It wasn't working just at the moment but she had faith it would if she kept trying.
He smirked, and went to retrieve the gift. Coming back, he handed her first a half dozen flavored honey sticks, then the wrapped object. Once she had it in her hands, he helped her shift, so that he could lay behind her on the couch while she opened it.
Her faith never let her down.
Shiri pressed back against him as both of them settled comfortably on the couch. For now, she put the honey sticks on the arm of the couch turned temporary shelf; she would get to snacking on them later. For now it was big gift time. Carefully, she unwrapped the soft blue fabric from it , placing it on the arm of the couch as well, desperate not to be distracted by how soft it was. So soft... She fought the urge to pet it.
But once it was out of her hands and the temptation was out of her mind, she found her fingers brushing along the tougher feel of a solid frame surrounding a piece of canvas. Inside was almost a second frame of painted designs and images surrounding the careful Latin lettering of the poem at its center.
The Latin had surprised her. She hadn't expected Latin. She always expected Greek from him even though she had taught him both...
But reading it, she could guess why he had chosen it, besides the fact it was easier to make something sound pretty when a language had vowels... It was about her, not as a goddess but as a woman. The woman he loved.
With utmost care, she placed it on the coffee table not too far away and twisted in his arms to kiss him again.
Ah, good. Grinning, he wrapped his arms around her in return, and kissed her back, deeply. When the kiss paused, he whispered, "Happy anniversary."
“Happy anniversary,” she repeated in whisper against his lips , tapping a second shorter kiss to them before snuggling against him. He always won on Anniversary Day. His presents and sentiments always gripped her so tightly, surprising her by its tenderness and sincerity, even when she thought she was braced for it. But she wasn't overly surprised by that. He had picked out the day. Being in a definite relationship with terms like boyfriend/girlfriend had been more important to him than her and that's what today celebrated. Her important day would come in January...
But she smiled as she snuggled. It might not have been as important to her, but it was still nice. “Your gift is not nearly as sentimental...”
Adam shrugged as he cradled her close. "I just thought it would be good to make something," he mentioned. Since he was, of course, an artist and all. He kissed her forehead. "I'm sure if you chose something it'll be perfect."
“You always win,” she murmured again against him and then shrugged as well. Now was just as good a time as any she supposed. From her pocket she pulled out the knight shield medallion she had given him on their first Christmas and placed it back around his neck on a brand new stainless steel chain. Smoothing it along his chest, she put her arms back around his shoulders.
Adam fingered the new chain for a moment, then grinned at her. "I didn't think it was a competition," he mentioned, then rewrapped his arms around her in return. "Thank you," he said softly to her hair.
“It is not. A competition would mean I would have a chance...” She said in a giggle. But that was fine. This day was his. Hers would come in January when they celebrated the anniversary of his priesthood – then should would give him a gift from her own heart. “But that does not mean you still did not win.”
"I think I win a lot by being with you," he mentioned off hand, smiling at her. He'd be happy to let her have this day as his, and her day later. He merely enjoyed recognizing their relationship, and things like these gifts were another excuse to spoil her.... Just a hint.
She merely enjoyed having remembered this day. Even realizing once again that she had successfully not only remembered it but remembered with enough time to get him a gift that didn't involve lulling him back to sleep and driving out to the mall at top speeds just made her warm and giddy inside. Her praise of her only made her warmer and giddier... With a gentle touch, she traced along the side of his cheek and down his chin, “You have gotten very good at sweet talking, my knight.”
"It has come with practice, my lady." He twisted slightly to kiss her fingers, and grin at her. "Perhaps with more practice, I will get even better at it," he teased gently, idly wondering how they would spend the rest of the afternoon, until dinner.
Shiri was perfectly content to stay put until dinner, but realization and thought interrupted her uncomplicated comfort. He had just woken up... Had he eaten yet? No. She assumed not unless he was becoming a plant and could not sustain himself strictly on water and sunlight.
If he could do that, she was jealous.
“Are you hungry?” she asked, nuzzling against him again.
It was slightly amazing that Adam's stomach didn't answer that for him. It allowed the mortal a hint of decorum, at least for the time being. "I could eat," he answered, though his arms didn't immediately relax around her.
Shiri didn't especially want him to relax his arms from around her and let her go either, but with a grin, she quickly thought of a compromise, “Want to carry me into the kitchen and then watch me cook lunch?”
He paused and considered this for a moment, then smirked. "Sure." Grinning, Adam shifted to sit up, giving Shiri a way to scoot to his lap so it would be easier to scoop her up and carry her into the other room.
Shiri was quick to scoot, keeping her arms around him to help support herself when he picked her up, “Do you want a warm lunch or a cold one?”
Adam moved her as he needed, then stood, holding her against his chest as he walked them both to the kitchen. He shrugged to the question. "What do we have to make lunch with?"
“We just bought groceries so it is more of a question how much space are you willing to give me to prepare the meal...” Smiling, she half hid her face against his shoulder, peeking out from the illusion of a veil her hair in front of face only when she could feel them walking through a doorway, “Sandwiches would let you keep me in your arms the whole time. I could grab the things and bring them to the table while still being held. Presto.”
"If that's what you want to do..." He smirked at her and carried her into the kitchen, going straight to the refrigerator to set her down on her feet and give her access to the first ingredients.
“I am sure that you will overcome your disappointment in my choice...” she teased as she grabbed what she knew they would choose for sandwiches and put them on her lap, shut the refrigerator door and then grabbed the bread and a butter knife. “Okay, you can bring me to the table now.” She, in turn, would make sure nothing escaped her.
He eyed the items carefully on her lap, then moved over to the table. Drawing out a chair with his foot, he held her to unload some of the items before risking setting her within the seat.
Shiri easily put the food on the table, holding on to him with one arm until everything was there in front of them. Wrapping both her arms back around him was his cue that they could both sit down. It was mornings.... afternoons like this she longed for. Simple and uncomplicated, completely divorced from the burdens of her particular fate or even the uncertainty of the future. A gentle present that was almost timeless. How many meals had they shared like this? She had never bothered to count so she could never answer that question.
He paused for a moment of consideration, than sat in the chair, settling Shiri upon his lap. He shifted, making it easier for her to reach the items on the top of the table, before simply resting his hands at her waist. A small smile played on his lips, before he bent forward and kissed the back of her neck lightly.
A shiver went right now her spine at the very first sensation of his lips ghosting along her skin. Shiri put down the bread back down onto the table for turning to look to him with a small smile. “You are never going to eat if you keep doing things like that, you know,” she murmured lightly as she kissed him before pulling back again to meet his eyes.
He rubbed her sides as she spoke, then grinned and released her. He leaned back in the chair, hands raised in a gesture of surrender. He would stop so that she could finish with the food. It was safer than getting in the way of the knife. ... And food.
Shiri giggled. Her mortal was just silly. She blamed herself; she was certain her own childishness was the root cause of his silliness. The food was ignored for the moment as she shifted just enough on his lap to kiss both of his surrendering palms with slow tenderness before turning back to the food. She wasn't leaving his lap, the other chairs and even the bench connected to the kitchen nook's table might as well have been nonexistent.
Once she had made a few sandwiches and carefully tore them into smaller pieces, she turned back to him, “Now I can pick at them and you can devour them...”
He chuckled at her actions, and bent forward to kiss her shoulder even as he reached around to pick up some food. He stuffed a bit into his mouth. "Thank you," he managed.
Shiri reached over and grabbed his arm, wrapping it around her as she picked at one of the pieces, more to play with it, rolling the edges of the bread beneath her fingers, taking advantage of store-bought white breads strange malleable properties to enclose the meat filling inside of it. “You are welcome. It should be enough to tide you over until dinner.... right? Tide you over until you take me out and show me off?”
The arm wrapped around her waist as she wished, the other still reaching for food as his first meal of the day. He nodded at the question. "It's fine. Do you know what you want to wear at all?" he asked, as she'd mentioned before she may choose not to change.
Smiling just a little, Shiri rested her head against his shoulder She was especially hungry, a benefit of being awake for breakfast and snacking in the morning before roaming the crawl space of the attic For the moment she preferred to listen to the gentle thumping of as she touched her forehead to the side of his throat, “What do you want me to wear?” It was his special day... It was only fair as she knew she would certainly dress him up on hers.
Adam shrugged carefully, but considered the question. He paused to kiss the top of her head, resting as it was so close. "Maybe something purple this time?" he questioned, before carefully chewing his next bite.
Well that meant she was going to have to change, but she supposed she shouldn't go out in an outfit that she had just been crawling around in. Not that her dress was especially dusty... a benefit of owning a house once owned by Hestia, she assumed, clean attics. But her mind was hardwired over the centuries to believe purple was an appropriate color for December along with the normal Christmasy colors of green, red and whites... Besides, she liked purple. “I think I can manage that for you, my knight. Any other requests?”
He shrugged again, finishing his bite of food before he thought to answer. He'd only chosen purple because he'd dressed her in blue before. But as he thought about it, he smiled at her. "The jewelry I've given you?" he asked, thinking of the set he gave for their first year, and the bracelet at their second.
Shiri giggled softly. She couldn't even help herself when he requested exactly what she planned to do anyway. Her favorite kind of request really... With a small stretch of her legs, she slid off his lap and stood beside him, her urgent need and great desire to bask in his affection fulfilled at the moment. Not that she moved especially far from him but instead playing with his hair with the tips of her pale fingers, “When you finish eating, can you put the stuff away? I am going to find something purple...”
Releasing her so that she could stand, Adam looked up as she started to play with his hair. He nodded to her request. "Yeah. Do you need any more?" he asked, glancing at the food and the sandwiches already made.
“No, I kinda made enough for you... I ate twice already. Three times if you count candy.” Shiri did. The modern world was filled with candy, a fact she enjoyed very much. “Go ahead and finish it if you want.”
And she still had her honey sticks as well. He decided not to mention that just now. He nodded as he reached for his next bite. "Alright. Do you want me to come up when I'm done?"
“I assumed you would,” Shiri grinned a little as her fingers trailed down from his hair, down his cheek and then away from him as she turned. She didn' t look over her shoulder as she moved from him but she kept speaking, her natural melodic speech pattern reflecting her amusement, “I did not expect you to stay away after I said I was going to change clothes, hence get out of these... More like a head start.”
Adam chuckled. Standing, he started to gather the items to put them away. He could finish the sandwich in the other room if needed... And it would give Shiri a chance to start to look through her things. Idly he wondered if she had a purple scarf yet or not, and decided to find out by the end of the night.
Summary: It's their 3rd anniversary, and Adam and Shiri make plans to recognize this.
