Who: Ares, Melpomene, Thalia and baby Helen
What: Returning Helen to her parents.
Where: the Theatre
When: Early morning of November 1, after the killing of Brian
Warnings: None
It had been a long night, but Ares actually hadn't had this much fun in a long time. Sure, Mel's daughter being kidnapped was not something one usually would call fun but the torture and killing of the kidnapper was fun. Getting rid of the body wasn't so hard in Florida, the Everglades were nice and big, besides he was the God of War.
Driving over to the theatre with a baby against his chest was not something that happened often in the Wargod's life but that did not mean he was not able to do such a thing. He was a father after all, he had probably more children then he or the historians knew about. He wasn't the traditional father but he still knew how to keep a baby safe.
Mel had told Nick to go home, in case the kidnapper called shortly after the party was coming toward its close. They'd raised a large amount of money, and it would have amazed the muse had she been in any kind of mood to tend to such thoughts. Instead, she'd left everything to the staff she and Thalia had assembled, and let her sister tend to the details of everything that hadn't been covered. For the most part, it was taking information for items that the amounts needed to be verified on, or exchanging a gift basket with the payment for what it included.
Now however, it was after three. Already the theater had been cleared, and much of the clean up for the night done. Fine tricks of it would be settled later. Melpomene was sitting on the theater stage, tired from the amount of power she'd put into the mask of horror she'd created, with her head resting on her sister's lap. The message had come that Ares was bringing Helen back, but all she could feel, was numb. Her eyes were closed, listening to the quiet sounds around her, waiting for the sound of her brother's arrival. She wasn't even entirely sure what she would do after that.
Thalia hummed a little lullaby as she played with her sister's hair, all little gestures to comfort Mel. She was feeling a little bit better now that she knew that Helen would be in her sister's arms again soon but the fear she had felt earlier was still in her system and she could only imagine what was going through the mind of Tragedy. With every little touch and hum she let a little bit of her power flow over the other muse hoping that this would make her feel better.
Ares made it to the theatre pretty quickly, as he parked the car he grabbed the mask wich was wrapped in the red costume. He wasn't sure if there was still power in it but with the little half mortal baby in his arms he was not going to risk it. He made his way into the theatre as the baby against his chest started to wake up. He looked down at the little girl wondering for a moment what she would remember of all this.
Who knew what babies remember? She would probably remember the smell of her great uncle and uncle, but little more then that. The chest she was against was strong and solid, but it didn't have what babies that young needed. Especially hungry ones. Her whimpers and the first signs of crying echoed in the space of the theater as the god of War entered and began to near the pair of muses. For a moment, the mother stayed still, as if unsure if she dared to believe it, before slowly sitting up and looking in the direction of the sound. She was far more relaxed then she would have been on her own, due to her sister's presence, but she was still Tragedy, and dared not to hope too soon.
Thalia looked over to the tall man entering and even though she had not been introduced to the 2008 Ares she had no trouble recognizing that this was the God of War. Of course the fussing baby in his arms gave that away a little too. She started to smile, she knew that with Helen safely back with her parents everything would be well again. It was just a bit odd and actually very comical to think of the God of War being the one returning the baby.
Hungry babies were not something Ares dealt with well, he was not a woman and he was not a very nurturing God. Protecting and keeping safe were things he could do but caring, feeding and all the cutesy stuff he just could not. ["This is yours."] He tried to sound gruf but he didn't really pull that off too well. The one that would accuse him of caring for Muses or babies would face terrible pain, the one trying to tease him with it would face a terribly painful dead. That was both a promise and a thread he made in his mind directed at the universe at large.
Mel wouldn't be the one teasing him. She'd sent him not because he was nurturing, but because she knew he was protective, and would see that the kidnapper paid for what was done to him. She stretched her arms out and accepted the small child, cradling her to her chest and brushing the fine hair on the top of her head, even as Helen began to grab at her mother. "[Thank you,]" she answered back, peering up at her brother. "[I trust you took care of the cause?]"
Thalia stepped behind her sister, wrapping one arm around Mel's waist still sending some of her power to strengthen her sister with the other hand she softly stroked her little niece.
["I took care of it."] Ares was not going to even acknowledge that Brian had been person and not a thing. ["It will never return to hurt anyone again."] When he said something like that nobody needed an explanation, when he made sure someone would never return that someone was dead.
Mel leaned back against her sister without even fully recognizing that she was doing so, cradling Helen close and rubbing her back against the child's attempt to get what she wanted. She nodded to Ares' words. "[Good. And thank you, for taking the time and effort to find Helen. I appreciate you going to that trouble. I owe you.]"
["Nobody hurts my family."] Ares would not talk about owing and thank yous right now. He wanted to get the energy he had gotten from torturing and killing the kidnapper and have some fun fighting with his uncle. That would be a real challenge, that stupid mortal that thought he could hurt the child of a Muse was no challenge at all. Sure it had been fun, but it had not asked much of his powers and skills. ["Take care of her."] He turned to leave.
["Thank you, Ares."] Thalia looked up from the baby in her sister's arm, she was not moving anywhere until Mel told her too move.
Mel nodded, and began to shift so that she could see her daughter properly feed, turning to take one of the chairs that was just off stage. Ares could see himself out, or Thalia could do it for her. She was going to feed her daughter, then take her home to her father, and find a corner to curl up in. One thing at a time. It was about all that Mel could do just now.
Ares moved to the exit of the theatre without another word, he had an appointment with Hades for a good fight and he was not going to let anything delay that any further.
Humming softly Thalia started to clean up some more, there really wasn't anything left to do but she wanted to be in the theatre for her sister. She would be there as long as Mel needed her.
Summary: After deposing of the kidnapper's body Ares returns little Helen to her mother.
