Who: Aphrodite and Polyhymnia
What: Polyhymnia admires her sister's work
Where: Aphrodesia Lingerie Boutique
When: September 22 - afternoon
Warnings: None
Aphrodite's lunch break had been extended by two hours so that she could get some extra shopping in. She had been on the hunt for a new pair of brown pumps and, pleased with her purchase, was wearing the heels proudly. It had been worth the extra time.
Her shop was almost finished, but she had yet to put out advertisements. There was a huge stack of papers meant to go out...eventually. For now, the large windows of the shop were exposed for all to see just what shop was coming soon. It drew a lot of attention, but no one ever walked in through the open front door. Little of the shop stock could be seen, only empty gold stands and nude mannequins.
Putting down her bags behind the long stretch of the front counter, she moved behind the only working register system and fiddled with the touch screen. It had been one of the things she had been putting off in learning.
Polyhymnia... Shiri was running down the street. Not because she was being chased, or because she was in a rush. No. Instead, it was to hear the sound of her flats striking against the concrete. The sound mixed with that of her breath and her heartbeat that echoed in her ears. It was the percussion to the song the traffic at her side gave her.
And she only stopped because her legs were burning and... Hey, wasn't this the place Valentine did the window for? Shiri smiled brightly even with the loss of the music as she pulled her veil back from her shoulders to over her pure white hair. Her sister did beautiful work... The albino muse put a hand to the glass... almost put her nose to it, too.
Tap, tap, tap Aphrodite hit her finger against the plastic monitor and sighed. It was easy enough; all you had to do was know how to read. With a sigh and a few more prods at the monitor, she turned her eyes out the window and noticed the woman staring. With a smile, taking the interest on her face as a compliment towards her, she walked out to the door and stuck her head out. "Something catch your eye?"
“It is like a painting pulled from the canvas and put behind glass,” Shiri murmured in reply, her soul being gripped by the work of her sister. Her eyes did not move from the window but at the very least her attention was divided enough to speak.
Her brow quirked and she stepped out of the door to glance at the window and back to the odd woman. "I'll be sure to let her know," she said, disappointed that the awe was only from the window.
Hmm, Shiri could hear that disappointment and did not understand. How could someone have any before this work? Only then did her pink eyes shift to the store owner. “If the inside looks like this, people will wish to never leave your business.”
"I'll have to proposition Val to do more work," she said simply. "The insides plain, but you're welcome to come in. Unless you feel like gawking at the front window some more."
The inside's plain? What a shame. But Shiri's class was canceled for the afternoon so she had little else to do. “I could do that from inside if it is as plain as you say” But now she was approaching the door.
"Might as well admire the backside," she said, slipping from the doorframe to go back to the register. Let the girl ogle, a gawker of artwork was not going to be a cause for jealousy. Yet.
This place was a muse's dream. A blank canvas, even with a couple of stages... though Shiri knew they weren't for actors. Still, none of it stopped her from weaving through the nude mannequins, almost resembling one if one had come to life and gotten dressed with her stark white skin. Then there were boxes... Her eyes lit up. Mysterious boxes... Oh, she couldn't help herself. Boxes!
Aphrodite followed the girl with her eyes as she wondered. "Are you alright?" she asked, setting her elbow on the counter and staring. Maybe she should have closed the front door...
“Fine!” Shiri called out as she knelt down beside a box. By fine, she really meant “I'm rummaging through your things!”
She sighed and just glanced away, listening for any sound of mischief. The boxes were open but the corners were tucked in, only showing bits of lacey fabric on the top.
"If you're going to steal something, make sure it's something light," she said, finally pulling away from the front desk to see what the girl was really up to.
More like the corners were tucked in. Shiri had somehow forgotten that this place was not hers to explore. Besides the lacey fabric on top had caught her eye... “It would have to be light. I am not very strong.”
"I meant in color," she said, standing now by the boxes, leaning casually against them. "A pale pink, perhaps?" She spun, opening the top box to show the inside. Digging under the top pile, she was soon proudly displaying a small, peach teddy. "Something like this."
“A pale pink would go with my eye...” Shiri's words cut off she actually saw what was being presented. Later she was going to make a note about not going into stores like this after being captivated by art. It really made her brain work odd. But for now... The teddy was too nice to be ignored and she reached out to touch the soft fabric. “You are very good at this.”
A pleased smile touched her face. "I know," she said simply, pulling away the clothing a moment after she touched it and stuffing it back. "I think a baby blue would be better," she excused, tugging out the new color. "There," she thrust it into her hands. "Go try it on."
“Really?” With the teddy in her hands, Shiri looked around the store. “You are not even really open?”
"Well if you don't like it I can take it back," she said with a touch of a frown on her lips. It was a trick that she often pulled.
There was little need for the trick. Shiri was already protectively tugging it to herself to keep it from being taken away. “I only meant, if it does fit and everything, you are not even open for me to buy it.” And that just leads to stealing. Which she was not above doing.
"Oh if it fits you can have it. Just tell your friends," she said simply, waving a hand dismissively. "Go try it on. Use the stage when you're done, it hasn't been walked on yet."
Shiri was not one to turn down free things. Ever. She wasn't rich enough to think about doing that. And even though she was walking the Miami streets in an ankle length dress and a veil to cover her hair when she bothered to keep it up, she wasted no time getting into a dressing room. It was not even a consideration. The clothes were shed and left on the floor of a dressing room and like a proper Greek goddess came out in complete confidence and like a good muse graced the stage.
Stepping back, she waited patiently for the girl to hurry up. She had expected her to be skittish, but when she came out proudly, Aphrodite was momentarily speechless. "I chose the right color and size. It looks lovely."
“It does.” Shiri couldn't help the mischievous smirk on her face as she spun to get a better feel for it. Blue was a very nice color on her... Adam had to be careful. She could easily make her eyes go with it. “And I can just have it?”
"Sure, I consider it free advertising," she said simply. "I just hope you have someone special to use it on?" The remark ended with curiosity, hoping she would speak on the subject if she did happen to have someone.
There had been a thought about saving it for a birthday gift for Adam but not only was that a cheap gift, and not only was it a selfish gift, but most importantly, that was more than a month away. Too long. She would just wear it out and then back. Much better idea. But the curious question made Shiri smile by instinct. “Oh, I do. A wonderful dark-haired man who worships the ground I walk on.” Well, close enough anyway. That's just how that phrase was.
"Ah, perfect," she said simply, running her index finger across her chin. "Well, show him that, and make sure the next time you come that he's with you. It'll be a real treat for him."
“Promise to have more in the actual store to look at next time?”
She crossed her heart with the same finger that had been dangling on her chin. "The shop is opening soon, actually. You're free to come to the opening party."
Party? Her sister would probably be there with this being so close to her domain. Be still her muse heart, “When is that?”
"Oh, a week or two?" she said, glancing up at the ceiling thoughtfully. "It's hard to say really. But there will be signs posted everywhere, including the shop front. Just look around, you won't be able to miss them."
“If it is on the shop front, there is no way I could. I have not had my fill of gawking at the window yet.” Suddenly, Shiri remembered the fact that she was currently wearing very little. Oh dear. She was going to begin to blush if that was not corrected. “I should probably get dressed again.”
"Yes, probably," she said, looking down. The girl was wearing far less than she was and it would only draw attention away from the goddess. "So the window really interests you that much?"
Beautiful albino in a teddy generally would. Even if the other was Aphrodite. At least for a few moments. “Yes.” The muse responded to the question quickly as she ducked back into the dressing up and began to pull back on her dress and matching veil. But being in the dressing room did not stop her from praising the window. Very little would stop her from doing that. “How could I not be? It draws the eye and holds attention.”
"I knew hiring Val was a good idea," she said simply, turning to look at the window again. "Well, feel free to stare outside the shop. Maybe someone else will actually give it a long look.”
Shiri grinned as she stepped back out from the dressing room. Wonderful, she had managed to get Val's boss to appreciate her more and got a free teddy. This had been a very productive outing. “I think I will. You can consider it more advertising for you.”
"Next time I'll put you out there in that," she pointed to the lingerie. "If you ever need some extra cash and are willing to parade around in front of the shop like that, let me know. I'm always looking for a pair of good legs."
Shiri's modesty might remember to exist before she was able to do that, but if Valentine was going to be parading around, there was little reason for her to even bother. She would be overshadowed. Valentine was prettier and more in her element here. But that did not stop her from smiling brightly, “We will have to see. Until then, I am going to go press myself to your window like a British child at a toy shop in a Dickens' novel.”
The girl was odd, very odd, but enough that she tolerated her in a good stride. "All I care is that you enjoy yourself in or around my shop," she said, waving her hand
With a little girl's scout's salute, given for no other reason but because Shiri wanted to, she darted back out of the shop, giggling on her way and returned to her position on the other side of the glass.
Summary: Polyhymnia comes across the shop window of Aphrodesia done by Val and encounters Aphrodite. In the end, she gets free lingerie.
