Thomas... The truth was that Teresa had been calling out his name in her mind every day since the day she arrived in Hawaii. The events leading up to that moment were quickly becoming a blur to her, as if it had all been some exotic dream and the here and now was reality. It was a warped reality to say the least, but it had seemed almost better to what she'd just been through. Even as she struggled to come to grips with something as mundane as a grocery store, she just knew that this place was far different than home was. Knowing Thomas was here (and that it wasn't just Stiles or some other Thomas-clone trying to play a trick on her) made Teresa feel better. At least until he'd actually spoken to her. Something about the way he accused her of things she had no memory of struck a chord with her. She had no idea what he was talking about and would have even suggested he hallucinated the whole thing had he not been so upset about it already. Teresa was a tough one, but she wasn't without feelings. At least... she didn't think she was. The worst part about it was that he couldn't hear her, or he said that he couldn't hear her. As unusual a talent as that was, Teresa couldn't help but find comfort in it. She longed to hear his voice in her mind. It brought her peace and made her feel safe in a world where nothing was safe anymore. And for that to be snuffed out like a light? Well, it was something she couldn't handle. Waiting for him on the beach was the hardest thing, because she wasn't sure if he was actually going to show up or not. And then, when he did, she almost wished she could turn and run away. Was it really so difficult to face him when the fear of the unknown loomed in the horizon? Thomas. She couldn't help it. She wanted him to hear her, wanted him to respond and to be the same person she knew back in the Glade. But she knew that wasn't even possible anymore. "I got you something," she said when he got closer, handing him over a cereal bar. "Most of the flavors taste like klunk, but that one's not too bad. Figured you might be hungry or something." |
