"Victorious warriors win first and then go to war-" Characters: Anybody, everybody Setting: Los Angeles Shatterdome Content: Nothing questionable yet Summary: A storm's rolling through and bringing a terrible surprise to the Shatterdome.
"All right, Gojun, you took it out," Marshall Fury said into the transmitter, scanning the holographic readouts that spanned the LOCCENT control wall. There was a flat line where, moments before, there had been the bright steady beat of life- the vitals of an active Kaiju. A LOCCENT officer echoed a confirmation of the Marhsal's assessment, "No signatures, sir." Another successful kill, but it had been a close one. There were too many close ones these days. "Return to base," he commanded Gojun Sundown's crew, then stepped away from the LOCCENT control. When he was sure the Jaegar had set a return course for the base, Fury moved to leave the control room altogether, but a voice stopped him at the door.
"Marshal, sir, we may have a problem," another officer said uncertainly, pointing to a weather radar screen. With a few commands to the control panel, the image expanded over most of the display, revealing the edge of a storm just visible at its top. "Reports say the hurricane's veered east, it'll make landfall in a matter of hours. Could interfere with our instruments."
They had been aware of the incoming storm, knew the hurricane might change paths, but Fury still wasn't pleased to hear it. He frowned at the screen, mulling over the potential damage the storm could cause and, worse, what it might mean for Kaiju activity. "Remain on alert," he finally instructed, coolly, and then left the LOCCENT at a brisk march.
Fury didn't stop until he was outside the Shatterdome altogether, standing on the deck overlooking the sea. The sea was already choppy, waves cresting and crashing against the Shatterdome moorings, stirred up by the distant hurricane. Fury could just see the bank of angry purple clouds scudding the horizon, laced with lightning. The sight twisted a foreboding knot in the pit of the Marshal's stomach. The storm could provide good cover for any breaching Kaiju. The monsters had seemed to grow wiser with time, he had no doubt they wouldn't press their advantage. Probably they'd see a few of them come tearing through the Breach. The frequency of multiple events was rising with several double events in the past year. Recently the Hong Kong Shatterdome had even seen a triple event. "Remain on alert," he repeated to himself under his breath. The rising storm and dangerous sea, the breach and its unending horrors, like nature herself was all in against humanity's struggle to survive. They couldn't stop the tide, there were dark times ahead for them all.
((For anyone who needs a reminder, here's a link to the original PR planning thread. There will be a thread to tag for random whatever in the hours leading up to the storm, then in a couple days I'll post a new thread of an actual attack on the Shatterdome.))
