Considering the extensive damage to the mansion, Kurt was astonished that nobody was killed. He arrived Wednesday night and had got to work early the next morning, and for the past couple of days it had been busy during the day and flopping into bed from exhaustion by nightfall. This left little room for socializing or catching up with old friends.
When Kurt noticed Piotr leaving the site after being told to take a break, he could see the not only the exhaustion in his face, but the look of defeat. Putting down the splintered beam of wood he'd been carrying, he followed in the direction that Piotr had gone and found him feeding the birds. Approaching from behind, but not intentionally trying to sneak up on him, Kurt was close enough to overhear what Piotr had mumbled.
"Not old, mein Freund," was Kurt's gentle reply. "But maybe weary. The mansion is not the only thing that needs rebuilding."
