Sinister growled and checked the transfer status of his databanks. The genetic samples and preliminary information he had gathered on the latest test s ubjects were already moved to one of his other facility. Those were the first to go when the base alert had gone off over the destruction of the door. He had been hoping to have a longer span of time before the X-Men found this location but their continued tenacity and area sweeps had finally picked up on some of the scientists with homes locally coming back from a trip to Phoenix. Those two would be reprimanded and executed once the X-Men were dealt with.
Not particularly satisfied with the transfer rate, Sinister left the computer panels and headed into the main laboratory chamber to deal with the threat personally. He only needed to act as a distraction for the few who came long enough for the files to be completely moved and the self destruct mechanism to activate. Then he and Gambit would leave and the rest be damned.
Jean heard footsteps and the redhead turned, green eyes catching sight of the pale face and red eyes of the doctor and her stance stiffened. Despite her fear, there was a slight glimmer of gold around her petite frame, much like the one that had surrounded her that day in New York monthes before. She could feel it again, the flame eating away at her heart, insides burning with desire to release the power there. Fists clenched at her sides, Jean lashed out, moving to strike him with a piece of fallen lab equipment. It shook under her guide, heading straight for him.
Sinister looked up, mind sensing the touch of a telepath in the area at the last moment and sent a beam of lurid red energy from one hand to destroy the makeshift weapon. He sneered at the girl, "Is this it? Xavier can't even send real opponents? Just children barely out of diapers. I'm disappointed."
"Oh, I'm more than enough for you to handle", she said simply. power crackled around her at the mention of her mentor and friend. Why did everyone think she was so weak? Speed, her parents, Lorna...it was all too much. Couldn't they see that she was a hero too? That she could take care of herself and others. Jean was a powerful telepath, of course to what extent was yet to be determined. The amber around her frame brightened, eyes glowing with a hint of flame, hair standing on end and tried to steady herself. She was angry, frightened, with too much power that she had yet to know where it came from.
"You are a child," Sinister replied, utterly bored and not at all worried about her strange power signature. He could be interested in it later, after he had her unconscious on his exam table. He lifted a large electronic microscope and sent it flying at her with his own mastery of telekinesis. Following it up with an energy blast from both hands. "Sinister has no time to play with children, girl. Go crawling back to your teacher."
