Confused, Wade just stared at her for a few seconds. This wasn't how these things usually went. Usually, the girl either asked to see, or made a grab for the mask without asking. At the very least, she should've asked what he looked like now, or what had happened that drove him behind the mask.
When his mind started working again, the first thing he did was twitch away from her hand on his cheek, because the first thought that went through his head was fear that she was making a grab for the mask. When she didn't, he felt guilty for pulling away, and even more confused.
Backed into a corner in a situation he didn't understand, Deadpool went with his usual fall-back plan: avoidance. Avoid responsibility, avoid commitment, avoid any and all sticky situations. And he wonders why the hero gig never seems to work out for him. When the going gets tough, Deadpool gets the hell out of dodge.
Silent, confusion hidden behind his mask, Deadpool turned his face away.
