And another piece fell into place. His taunting had been right, however much she denied it. After all the years of suffering and pining about having to keep the gloves on... this moment, only recently... this moment in time when Remy worked his charm...
It was the first moment in her life where she regretted not being able to touch.
Real and true regret over her barriers. The other times she had wanted touch, yes... but hand not truly felt remorse over not having it. She pushed herself to feel something that did not exist within her. She didn't mind the barriers, keeping others away. She wasn't supposed to be comfortable with that because no one was. But only a few months ago did she actually feel the emotion she'd been miming.
And she was unaware of it. Unconscious of this, buried so far beneath all those other personalities and memories that she couldn't find herself.
Of course, Xavier would never have found this. He would have sat there in her mind, guiding her to build walls around her 'core' to keep the other memories sectioned off. He wouldn't have dug through. It wasn't his way.
And now this piece was his to know. His secret to manipulate. She didn't, wouldn't, couldn't realize it on her own. Not now. Not with so many other voices inside her head.
He could have cleared them away then, paved the path that would allow her to struggle on her own to full understanding and quite possibly the epiphany that would lead to control. The one he could feel lingering just beyond his own grasp, waiting for the key to it all. He didn't have the final answer yet.
So what good would it do him to help her in such a manner right now? Nothing. He still needed leverage over her. Needed to keep her as loyal as possible to him. He would have to ease up on his seduction of her. She clearly preferred his son... that would change the game.
He smiled to himself and began pulling away from her mind, schooling his features into a calm, placid expression that would give away nothing that he did not want to give.
"Rogue," he called. "We are done." He checked the time, "Two hours have passed."
