Nick blinked, thrown off guard and exchanged a look with Wanda. Oh, right, the mission. He'd had agents fuck up worse their first time, and there was a surprising amount of good information S.H.I.E.L.D. had been able to glean from the files taken from Leung's office and what little Wanda got from his laptop. "It's not the mission," Nick muttered and shook his head.
"Some, things have happened while you were gone." His dark gaze moved slowly from Wanda's to Teddy's and then he plunged in, holding up a hand to be sure they wouldn't interrupt him. Get it all out in one go, like ripping off a band aid. "The day you left a S.H.I.E.L.D. prison full of Brotherhood members was raided and the prisoners were helped to escape. There were deaths on our side. Magneto came out and took the blame-" Nick paused for a half second as Wanda nodded. So they'd shown the video in China too.
He took a breath and continued, "Turns out, after reviewing tapes, it was Thomas Sheperd who did it. Psychics confirmed it when we brought him in and he's claiming, Wanda, it was you who set him to the task and went with him. Sort of hard since you were across the globe." So, there was the first piece of bad news, the second he really didn't want to give. Knew how it would end. He stopped, stared, allowed them a moment to digest the bit about Tommy. Wanda was quiet, though she looked stricken, betrayed and confused and it took every ounce of Nick's self control not to say I told you so.
