Downstairs Happy was lurking in the living room, feeling strangely out of place for the first time, well, ever. He'd texted Pepper to let her know he was coming for Christmas like she asked, but otherwise he hadn't seen or spoken to her since their mugging. Yes, he was avoiding her. What was he supposed to say? Sorry for the kiss? He wasn't sorry, and that fact left him feeling anguished. Happy was only sorry that he hadn't kept on kissing her. The whole thing was just hopeless and he had no idea how she was going to handle seeing him.
Still, here he was, looking around at the Christmas decorations glittering in the sunlight streaming from the windows. The room was silent save for the rustling of the curtain that had been placed over the gaping hole in Tony's living room wall. The sight of it made Happy wince as he remembered the incident at the Christmas party. That Fury sure was a piece of work. Just the thought of him left Happy scowling. He was still scowling when he heard the click of Pepper's heels on the stairs and he tried to make his expression blank. He only succeeded in making it look mildly uncomfortable.
