'Ro was in that split second before it connected when she had that feeling, that inkling. As it did, the world turned to a split second's pink haze and her fingers raked across it, white flowing in their path like little contrails.
The ball was hurled to the side as winds whipped all around her. She was spinning upwards, a scream on her lips for a second while she tried to command the raging cyclone to obey her and float on controlled air currents.
It didn't work quite right and her landing was a shaky thing, leaving her down on a knee. "What the hell was that? It was like the whole thing just got away from me for a second," she said, looking at her hands while the winds died down within the room.
