The apartment was a surprise. A rather pleasant one at that. A tidy little place, one bedroom, kitchen, living room and a bathroom with a balcony off the living space because she happened to be on the second floor. Lorna wasted no time getting that shower she had been long overdue for.
About a half hour later, just as she was stepping out of now cold water, a knock on the door reached her ears. That was curious. It could have been that nice man who explained where to find all the welcome info customs was supposed to go over in her information packet. He had left his name and number.
"Just a minute!" she called loudly and dragged a slightly wrinkled set of casual clothes out of her duffle. A white towel, like so many found in motels, was wrapped securely around her still wet hair. Then she headed to the door and opened it without bothering to check the peephole.
The friendly greeting for the helpful man died on her lips as her mind processed the sight before her. Magento. Magneto on her doorstep. Magneto on her doorstep smiling.
The door slammed shut in his face and her hands were pressed to her mouth in fright and shock and sheer panic. Magneto. Lorna forced herself to take a deep breath and took the towel out of her hair, fluffling the damp strands as best she could before opening the door again and peeking out from behind it, half hoping she had just been seeing things.
