There was another breath while Tony tried to decide whether Steve was lying to him, his head tilted and lips parted, trying to read what Steve wasn't saying. He couldn't be part of the team anymore, but he trusted them to tackle this with the morality and justice Nick clearly didn't believe in. He couldn't fight with them, but he trusted Tony to be loyal to him. Eventually, Tony could only look down again, lips pressed together without any words to form. What really wasn't fair was that it wasn't a fantastic expectation. They both knew who Tony would rather fight.
"Is that it?" he finally asked to the floor, only raising his eyes and focusing on Steve again with the question presented. Tony, for his part, only hoped he could escape then; that Steve would make his grand exit so Tony could just sort it out on his own. He didn't want to hear in any other way how he wasn't worthy of working alongside his friend. If this conversation wasn't going to reveal any good news, he just needed it to end.
