Oh god, that look. Steve's heart clenched at the expression that lingered beyond the surface of Tony's face, and he found himself wanting to take it all back, shoulders falling slightly.
He was blaming himself. He always blamed himself, even when he had nothing to do with it, and he doubted there was anything he could say to reassure him that this had nothing to do with him.
"It's something I feel I have to do, Tony. I respect Fury too much to fight about it, but I won't be part of a team that kills...that holds it's members captive. I've got enough blood on my hands without killing my friends. I just...I didn't want to leave without seeing you."
