There were shoes by the door. That was a good sign. She had decided to come in the first place, and hadn't left yet. To be honest, Tony wasn't sure how late he was, so maybe he wasn't doing too bad. Maybe she had just settled in and Pepper was being hysterical just to get him moving. Either way, Tony was in a good mood and those shoes put him in an even better one, and as he swept through the space dropping luggage and keys and inspecting the hospitalities, there was a song on his lips just loud enough to hear himself over the crashing surf. It started as a hum towards the glittering pool, and a wholehearted "Reeds driftin' on by, you know how I feel..." as he passed back through the living area, and a gentle lullaby of, "It's a new dawn, it's a new day..." while he swept through the bedroom, and by the time he was in the bathroom doorway he only had to mumble, "And I'm feelin' good," for it to echo off the tiles.
He remained there, shoulder and forehead leaned against the door frame, eyes heavy lidded and not quite focused when he popped the last of the handful of grapes he had found in his mouth. All he could really think of was how good his life was right now. The air was humid enough to feel it with each breath and the warmth of the water added a flush to her cheeks and he could just see the perfect curve of her shoulder and the curl of her hair sticking to her damp skin and he could almost stay there just to admire the scene if it hadn't occurred to him how much better it would be if he was part of it. When he finally pushed away from the door to slink across the tiles, he was unbuttoning his shirt cuff, wondering if he really needed words to apologize for his delayed arrival.
