Jessica made the mistake of glancing behind her, seeing the mass of bodies she couldn't quite count in the darkness, and hissed, "Shit," as she tried to pick up speed, bounced into a wall and went careening blindly around a corner. That was it. She stopped abruptly, only a few feet ahead but ready for the bulk of them to turn down her hall, arm outstretched and head turned away, coiled and ready. As they charged the corner, she took a single shot with her camera, her eyes squeezed shut but the flash bright behind her eyelids. She was running again before she had released the button, leaving them stunned and blind behind her, groaning frustration over the whine of the camera.
She was through a door and taking the stairs two at a time before they had blinked the stars out of their eyes.
