That Nick was being sympathetic and not giving her the harsh treatment (as she would have thought) was just as surprising. Jessica relaxed her shoulders just slightly, and breathed when she'd realized she hadn't been. She was doomed from the start; a fact that she'd long accepted. What she struggled with was the little control she felt she had over her entire existence, separating herself as a person from the thing, the property, that HYDRA treated her as. Her recklessness, the danger and the acting out, seemed like the only control she had over her life. It wasn't right, she knew that, and quietly nodded, understanding just how out of sorts she was. She didn't want to be beat; she'd never wanted to give HYDRA that power.
