The Aftermath of Chaos
By Anthea Dupres
Posted: 02/8/2016 NEW YORK, NEW YORK — Seven people have been confirmed dead, and dozens of others injured in yesterday's tragedy in Brooklyn where escaped wormhole monsters cut a swath of death and destruction across several neighborhoods. Although the casualties have been identified, friends and family have asked for privacy in this devastating time. Memorials were put up in neighborhood areas where the monsters rampaged, and several candlelight vigils were held in the evening.
It took S.H.I.E.L.D., SWAT teams, and costumed heroes nearly forty minutes to take down the creatures, leaving damage to the neighborhoods from both sides in the fight. Clean up efforts are still underway by Damage Control and city agencies, with early property damage estimates in the hundred millions. S.H.I.E.L.D. has released a statement promising more stringent measures in the future, but city residents are horrified and outraged by the catastrophe. "If they can track these things, then something like this should never been allowed to happen," Park Slope resident Anna Traylor remarked, standing near a makeshift memorial where people have stopped all day to leave flowers and pictures. "S.H.I.E.L.D. isn't doing it's job, so where are my taxes going?" said Aldric Souza, a local business owner whose deli was damaged in the battle. Another citizen, who wished to remained anonymous, asked, "What good are all these other super-powered yahoos running around in costume if they can't stop a disaster?" Although the monsters were stopped, many feel that it was a gross oversight on the part of S.H.I.E.L.D. and wonder if the agency, the government, and the city's "heroes" are doing enough to protect the people of New York. | |||||||
