The monster arched its back and came back on all fours again, shaking off the thick layer of hard skin burned off by the blast. It started to veer toward the new adversary; Jessica punched the beast back into her direction and threw it down by its horns. A grunt let her lips as rough claws curled around her waist and took her with it, tangling her up in its heavy limbs while they tumbled down the street. Jessica hit relentlessly until she could break out of its grasp, back on her feet, and by that time the monster swung its large fist into her body, knocking her into a building wall. Brick crumbled around her as she adhered to it for balance, glowering up at the monster charging toward her. She missed getting staked by ivory spikes by a hair, rolling back onto her feet and blasting the monster in the side. It tore its horned head out of the hole it created and swayed, disoriented by the biting energy, a little slower to recover. But once it did, the thing was surprisingly still quick; Jessica dodged flying fists, back-springing out of its reach and leading it into the street. She wasn't thinking about Nick, even though she'd put the monster back in his line of fire. She was trying not to think about anything at all, each desperate strike her way of getting out of her own head.
