She was well up, and staring at him with some bewildered distaste from across the alley. Jessica had only climbed as far as she thought she needed to make a solid leap from the fire escape to the facing building, misjudging in her unsteady rush and slamming against the wall as she made a desperate grab for the ledge before hauling herself up. A dusting of brick dust from the impact showered the alley below as Jessica hesitated long enough to scowl at the scrapes on her hands, then glanced back to see...whatever that was. Was Danny Rand Spider-man? Jessica crouched at the edge of the roof to squint across at his far too overwrought landing for the total lack of supportive audience, not sure if Spider-man was just much crappier in person or this guy had used his inheritance to make himself a shitty knockoff. Fuck, she should have been taking pictures. Did the camera survive the jump? She had felt it hit her in the back as she hit the building, but it didn't seem any worse for the wear.
Whatever she had just witnessed, it shook off that clawing panic, for now, letting it settle into a knot in Jessica's gut. Maybe she'd had a little too much to drink.
