The further into their apartment the woman moved, the closer Wanda got to her brother, putting an arm around his back and glaring dubiously at the intruder. Nothing she'd said or done put Wanda at ease. Her timing was suspect, after what happened this morning, and she knew about the landlord so maybe coming now was intentional, when they needed help. A wolf at the door, bearing gifts. It was a risk, but Wanda twitched her fingers hidden behind Pietro's back and let her energy seep through the room, dashing against a coolness in the Contessa's emotions, a calculating facade. It only bolstered Wanda's distrust, but she didn't dare actually go into the woman's brain. She didn't want to, didn't think she'd like what she found there. She pressed her hand into Pietro's back, a warning.
"This is what Strucker wants?" she ventured, clearly skeptical. "Because he did not seem so ready to help when we talked with him last." In fact, he'd been nothing short of threatening. Perhaps this was some elaborate way to be rid of them, give them papers meant to earn them execution as spies or something. But no, surely HYDRA would simply get the job done rather than risk the twins spilling their secrets. Still, it seemed odd.
