The question brought on a return of the scowl, though it was more uncertain now. Cassie's hackles were up, but she wasn't sure if she should feel defensive or not. Even if he was just curious, it still seemed like some kind of objection to her lifestyle (which, sure, totally sucked sometimes but it was still her life). She settled for wary sulkiness and embarrassment.
"I dunno, stuff," she muttered vaguely, trying not to meet any of the curious glances from passerby. "I mean, I do things. Like- like school." Okay, well, defending her lifestyle wasn't really getting her anywhere because that sounded pretty sad and frustrating now that she was saying it out loud. Finally, she shrugged in defeat. "One of our neighbors has Monopoly," a last sullen effort at defense. "I'm pretty good at it." Surely her life wasn't that boring. Or maybe it was. Cassie really had to figure out how to get out more.
