Well, okay, she had enough faith in him still to at least believe Tony knew what he was saying (even if she didn't necessarily like what she was hearing). Which meant she'd listen to him politely with a kind of glazed expression, rather than trying to argue against him. Tony might not have been her hero at this second, but Cassie wasn't so disappointed in him that he'd landed himself in the "enemy" category yet. Her mom and Blake still held that honor, and no advice from Tony would change that. She nodded along with whatever he said and kind of started tuning him out until he hit the end bit. That got her attention. It sure sounded a lot like he was telling her to sneak around- which she had been doing- only smarter.
Cassie stared at Iron Man with a look of complete surprise at the very un-grown up guidance he'd just offered, and then nodded appreciatively like he'd totally just managed to blow her mind. "Like, manipulate them?" she asked, the concept a novel one. Cassie didn't even think that was possible, and she couldn't really envision an existence in which her mom actually trusted her.
Truthfully, her mother's strictness wasn't solely due to her tyranny, or even her concern. Sure, Peggy had always been overprotective and Cassie had lived a relatively sheltered life, but since the Evacuation (and admittedly, for awhile before) Cassie had given her mother plenty of reason to be stern. She pushed back and she struggled against every single rule, because as she'd got older Cassie understood that for every reasonable one her mother made, there was another petty one meant to distance Cassie from her father and his lifestyle. The girl hated it, and so she'd fought Peggy tooth and nail over even the smallest stupidest things. Until now, it simply hadn't occurred to her that earning her parents' trust could actually work in her favor more than rebelling against them had. What a dangerous and useful idea.
