That was just the kind of vague crap she'd been hearing from all the adults in her life, and Cassie was disappointed to hear more of the same now. Even though Cassie knew they all meant well, it seemed condescending. She wasn't a little kid, she just wanted the truth. Somehow, she'd expected better from Tony.
Scowling, she resisted his assertion with a frustrated shake of her head. She'd thought, with all his tech stuff he could just easily search for her dad or something. Maybe he couldn't and it was just all too alien and different, up here. It wasn't like technology was a magic fix-all. But in all the years she'd known him, it had never once occurred to her that there was anything Tony or the Avengers couldn't do. This was turning out to be a pretty disillusioning conversation.
"Total lockdown," she repeated in answer to his question, trying to shake off that whole disenchanting truth about her childhood heroes thing. "She pretty much knows where I am every second of every day. She's a tyrant. The second I turn eighteen I am fu-uuuh-reaking out of here." Not that Cassie even knew where she'd go. Out to explore space, probably. Find a way to become a superhero. These seemed like pretty reasonable life goals now that her life had been totally turned upside down.
