Of course the demon anticipated this, hoped for it, and with a cackle it brought Wanda's consciousness to the fore to take the brunt of every blow. "Jess, I'm so sorry," she groaned from the floor where she'd landed after Jessica's kick to her face. She could taste the blood she'd drawn when she'd bit her friend, and Wanda began to cry. The insisted in her head that she deserved all this pain, she was starting to believe that. She shook her head weakly at what it demanded from her next and, when she wouldn't stand of her own accord, the demon forced her onto her feet and made her lunge at Jessica as she repeated that she was sorry, over and over, voice thick with tears. Unable to control herself and with the demon's supernatural strength, she landed punches against Jessica's face and body, trying and failing to fight the demon's influence. When it finally stopped, leaving her wavering on her feet.
Wanda focused with all she could on that sliver of soul she still had, trying to draw the strength for even a little defiance. The demon made it clear to her that at the end of its little games it would kill Jessica. But Wanda also knew that it wasn't invincible. The energy of the venom blast, even though Jess had held back, had affected it, somehow hurt it in a way no physical blows could. The demon had no intention of giving Jessica the opportunity again. Wanda had other plans.
"Jessica," she barked through gritted teeth, her tone different now from the pathetic hopeless apologies she'd been crying. For these few moments she had control, wrenched it from the demon who was raging inside her. She couldn't hold it for long, as the monster struggled it wore at her energy. "Blast me, now. Give it all you've got." Wanda didn't know if she could survive the venom blast, but she knew it would save Jess.
