"Great," he answered, automatically, though his expression made it clear that he was lying. He dropped his gaze to his hands with a sheepish smile and a shrug. She knew him too well, she'd see right through the lie. Anyway, she'd asked, so- "Guilty," he admitted and finally lifted his face to meet her stare. It was a relief, he guessed, to say it out loud. "That you're in here. You shouldn't be. Colleen, I couldn't heal you." Even as he told her, Danny knew he shouldn't be laying this on her, that it wasn't fair, but he couldn't seem to stop himself once he'd started. "I tried and I couldn't. Maybe if I'd just done something sooner." There was frustration in his face, shame in his voice, and still the ghost of a fear he couldn't shake since she'd flat-lined on the table.
