Clearly, Jasper had misjudged the type of companion animal that Nick Fury would appreciate, but even he couldn't feel terrible for that bad call. Who would have thought the Director liked goats? Still breathing heavily from his several block struggle with the animal, Jasper gladly eased off, letting the Director take control of the situation to catch his breath and flex his suffocating fingers. "That's, uh, my goat," he replied, "Or, it was. I was on my way to drop it off, someone's taking it, but now, uh, I'm here, with the goat. There was a problem." Clearly. Jasper gestured to the chewed end of the leash, still dangling from the goat's paw-printed collar. "We're not staying," he assured Fury, before he got too concerned about the unexpected company. "We were just in the area, and I wanted to bring you this."
As long as they could all control their urges to ask anymore about the goat, Jasper invited Fury to direct his attention to the cage, lifting it up to bring the animal inside eye level with the Director. "You can say 'no'," Jasper said, then immediately regretted it because Fury rarely needed the encouragement, and Jasper really, really didn't want to carry this cat any further, never mind all the way back to the Bronx where he'd have to figure out what else he could do with it. "But he's very low maintenance, and he could keep the birds away from your windows so they don't...make a mess, and, you know..." This didn't feel like a very good sales pitch, but Jasper wasn't prepared to admit he thought Nick Fury would appreciate a friend. "It's not like I went out of my way," he just kept talking, lest Fury think he was really weird. "I just really need to get rid of this cat. I had the cat, and now I don't need it. Is all."
