"No! No, we don't!" Daisy screamed before Alex had finished speaking, her voice breaking and her burning blue eyes squeezed shut, doubling over with the force of the shout clawing its way out of her and shaking ancient dust from the cracks in the walls. For that terrible flash, and as she sucked in a ragged breath, swaying back away from where she had planted her feet to fight and released the hammer to pitch to its side on the floor, the frustrated knit of her brow and grit of her teeth twisted up into pleading and desperate before her expression hardened again and she was turning sharply on her toes, shoulders up and back to Alex. She went from exhausted to taught and dangerous in an instant, drawing her fist back to snap recklessly and drive it through the nearest wall.
