There was one person here with no intention of avoiding him. Nick spotted Coulson across the room, a fifth of scotch in his hand and surprise on his face. He hadn't expected to see Phil here, particularly since he hadn't seen much of Phil at all after the forced leave of absence. Fury knew what Coulson had told the psychiatrists, but nobody would give him a straight answer about what exactly was wrong with him.
Nick kept his own theories and suspicions to himself, since nothing he had to say on the subject would make a difference so long as the shrinks thought Coulson posed a danger to himself, others, or S.H.I.E.D.'s interests. It was hard when he could no longer trust the agent that used to be his right hand man. There weren't all that many people Nick could trust these days.
"Coulson," he greeted with a nod when he approached him then, draining his scotch, asked, "Still crazy?" Nick wasn't here to make polite small talk.
