It took Tony a beat to catch up, expecting Steve to laugh it off and instead flinching defensively, reaching up to catch on of Steve's wrists and lifting the other hand to his chest, holding his gaze obstinately. It was okay, he just said he was here to take care of Tony, Tony would have to push him a lot harder than Hammer before he had anything to worry about. Captain Touchy just didn't think his dry spell was very funny.
"I'm not, not really," Tony said, lifting his fingers from around Steve's wrist to gesture before curling them to hold again. "I mean, it's okay, I get it, I was horrible to you and then this, and it's not the dark ages anymore, it's okay." Which sounded terrible once Tony realized he was still on the defensive, and had to continue in a rush, "I didn't do...any--I mean, they had someone watching me 24/7, I couldn't even jerk off if I could--I'm not saying I would have done anything, I've got you-- or, if-if I had you, to come home to, that's different, I'm--I'm not really worth--I mean, obviously, what I'm trying to say--I should have called you."
