If nothing else, that question was enough to nullify Pepper's statement. She should have known as well as any Avengers that a win didn't always mean coming out unscathed; it didn't even mean survival. She wasn't nearly in a position to make that commitment, not mentally and not with Anthony with a parent already benched.
"Pep..." Still, telling her no never went over well. She only really liked saying it, not hearing it. "You stole an untested prototype. You're lucky that wasn't what killed you--these suits, they have to fit. There's no round two." If that didn't sell it, Tony couldn't risk resting there. He barely pasused for breath before he was continuing, "Let me, let me find out what we know about this guy. The Avengers are back on the street, one of them has to be on top of this by now, while you were sleeping in. Did you have any vacation days left, by the way?"
