Briefly, Kurt's frown deepened into a scowl, but he quickly forced his face into a more passive expression as he tried to hold his anger at bay. Kitty was for this, after all; it didn't sound as if she'd encouraged Calvin and Kurt knew full well how pushy the man could be. Which was no excuse for his behavior. That Rankin couldn't respect boundaries and upset Kitty so badly was what made Kurt so mad, but he couldn't risk Kitty thinking he was mad at her.
"Well, as long as you're not," Kurt said wryly but knew the moment the words were out of his mouth that the joke would fall flat. This wasn't the time and making light of the situation, as if he didn't care, was just as bad as being angry about it (and he was fairly certain his grimace didn't pass for a grin, anyway).
"Katzchen," he began again, earnest now, "Why did you seem so afraid to tell me?"
