"How thoughtful," she dryly remarked. Then, after a cold pause, "As I'm sure you could imagine, bringing your terrorist girlfriend along would have been a bad idea anyway." The humorless smile was gone from her lips as soon as it appeared. Knowing that she was a HYDRA drone at the time really put a damper on what was supposed to be righteous anger; it hurt that Nick couldn't confide in her, that he left her heartbroken. That there was no goodbye. But then, if that day in Central Park had gone her way, she was sure now that HYDRA would have taken advantage of that. All around frustrating, to say the least.
"Two years, if you're wondering," she said as if to have sensed it on Nick's mind. While gauging his reaction, her gaze grew distant as her mind wandered. Two years chipped, undetected; even now, Jessica had no idea what that said about her--if she was that great of a terrorist or that weak of a person not to overcome HYDRA's control. Both put a bitter taste in her mouth that was hard to swallow.
