Isolation had never particularly suited Wanda. After so long alone, having Jess around was like a breath of fresh air. Even at her most taciturn, Wanda appreciated Jessica's company. She didn't mind the frequent times they were just quietly sharing space, it was nice to have someone there. The tower had been big enough to avoid other people, but the last few weeks sharing a hotel suite had proved to Wanda that having Jessica in closer quarters sharing an apartment would be a pretty good arrangement. If they could actually settle on a place.
They'd put their apartment hunt on hold with all the latest chaos, and had only really started looking recently, but it already felt like they'd seen a hundred places. Their search was blur of chirpy real estate agents and stark white furniture (either that was the popular style in a particular tax bracket, or every one trying to sell their place used the same decorator).
"It does," Wanda answered automatically, looking around, but not really seeing it. She'd have to take Jessica's word for it; adjectives describing apartments and design had lost all meaning. Wanda had figured out early on that if it didn't meet the list they'd made of basic requirements, it wasn't worth wasting her attention on.
So far none of the apartments they'd seen had made the grade, even after marking off most of the more whimsical amenities they'd added to the list late one night after a bottle of wine (they'd decided they could do without the en suite sky garage since they could both fly, and a rooftop garden with a bar wasn't that important as long as they had a balcony).
