The mention of Jan only brought more conflict, leaving Jasper both relieved that he was safely unmarketable at least to some people on this boat and thoroughly embarrassed by the suggestion of interacting with her. A man was supposed to introduce his friends well before a looming anniversary, not uncomfortably close to one, and yet even without that extra flavourful awkward reticence, he couldn't see the whole event going smoothly. There would be jokes. There would be veteran hero camaraderie. There would be Colleen and Jan in the same room. That was worse than introducing his sisters.
Slouching and halting rather like he was being punished already, Jasper obediently took his seat and watched the departure of the beer with trepidation, sure he knew this game but not how this version ended. He would have felt a lot more safe if he wasn't between the ladies and their devilish moods. "Shouldn't I be getting you one?" he tried to play out, spreading his hands for some support here because obviously Misty shouldn't be expected to do a thing, especially not any scheming. Those older ladies had left him touchy. Maybe he had been overconfident in thinking he could safely go for a swim after the sun was down, he could always go back to his cabin, there was free WiFi.
