It would be Pietro to wear incessantly at all of Tony's deliberate defenses and come straight out and ask the questions everyone else knew well enough to be uncomfortable about. It was more challenging to anticipate anyone, Pietro especially, keeping tabs on who Tony did and did not get along with. Tony wasn't even sure how to judge most of his relationships. Hammer was a distinctly negative one, though, that was unavoidable and it wasn't as though Tony could argue against the assessment.
"We don't have to like each other to do good work," he came up with, but by then he had to focus with intent on not fidgeting, fingers laced together again and slouch deep. It wasn't very comfortable. "I mean, you know..." Tony continued, for something to say as he pulled himself out of the seat so maybe it wasn't so obvious that he was pacing, but realized belatedly that Pietro probably didn't know. There had been plenty Avengers that were just as likely to crack each others' jaws as the Wrecking Crew's, but they hadn't seen a lot of that since Quicksilver joined; only Iron Man, who eventually bowed out, couldn't seem to get along with everyone. It was probably just him all along, Tony realized, and he didn't have to think about his pacing because he had stopped, brow furrowed, hands on his hips, staring blankly at his chess game.
