Hill's question elicited a snort from Fury and a sardonic smile. Yeah, right. That was exactly why she just happened to mosey on down here after months, just to see him. He settled his back against the wall and stretched his legs out in a more relaxed posture, though his look on his face was still guarded and he didn't unfold his arms. He was already shaking his head at the suggestion that they "talk." About what? Sports? Weather? Or maybe secret bases and hidden assets and lists of agents loyal to him.
Once upon a time he'd considered Hill as a name on that list and he still did, especially with that last thing she'd said. A tacit admission of her continued trust, but it wasn't like they were going to exchange any meaningful information here with the new regime looking over her shoulder. He couldn't blame here, either, if she was just here trying to do her job because Nick knew full well if she didn't she'd end up in a cell herself.
Hell, it might be better for her in the long run under Hammer's scrutiny if he acted with her like he did with anyone else, uncooperative and with suspicious. If she wasn't a favorite, if there was some distance, then maybe she could avoid unwanted wary attention from above. "Yeah, well, whatever I was, I'm not anymore and we both know why you're here, Hill. Don't try playing me. I'll bet the new boss sent you."
