Altruism played no part in Magneto's offer to the young man. On the contrary, he felt he was doing himself a favor by getting the stranger away as quickly as possible. Magnus didn't know if he was a threat but there was always the potential for it and with the stranger's particular abilities, this was not an enemy Magnus was eager to make. An alliance was a possibility but at the moment he was more inclined to be distrustful and this man was already here with a purpose, one that didn't suit Magnus.
He made no acknowledgement of the thanks he received and turned to look towards his city. For a few moments he lifted his helmet to send a telepathic message to one of the island's psychics which would then be passed on to one of Genosha's teleporters. The next few minutes passed in a tense silence as Magnus donned his helmet once more and stared off into the distance, ignoring the shapeshifting interloper. When a woman appeared out of nowhere he gave her instructions to take the young man to Madagascar. He finally spared the stranger one last look.
"Try New York," he suggested just before the teleporter and the man disappeared in the blink of an eye. "Everyone ends up in New York." His words weren't a lie and if his advice helped the man or hindered him, it was none of Magneto's concern. Let the reality-hopping stranger go be someone else's problem. Magnus had larger worries to occupy his time.
