Thought I'd take brief break from studying.
character: Colleen and Ozzy
setting: Her place - 3am.
content: Ozzy.
summary: Colleen has a hard time sleeping. Ozzy isn't as comforting as one would expect a pet to be.
"Gah!"
Colleen shot up, panting heavily. Fourth time this week. Cold with sweat, she brought a hand to her throat and hunched forward, catching her breath. Her bones rattled. Colleen sat quietly in the darkness of her bedroom, easing out of the panic and relieved that she was mobile again, and not being swallowed by any dark, invisible forces. "What the hell was that?" she breathed, equally relieved to have her voice back. For days now, Colleen had shrugged it off as a bad dream, but now she had been far too consciously alert through it to be entirely convinced. Even as she sat there fully awake, a grim disturbance lingered around her that made her hair stand on end. Rubbing her eyes, Colleen reached absently for the lamp and turned the switch, gasping in surprise at the pair of wicked amber eyes staring at her from the foot of her bed.
"Oh my god." Slapping her hand over her chest, Colleen frowned, her body rigid. The cat sat eerily still, watching her with a predatory glint in its eye. She felt unnaturally threatened by this animal--with good reason, of course, he never looked at anyone else this way, and she wasn't even sure how he had gotten into her room. The door was shut. With a great deal of caution, Colleen edged out of bed and padded over to the door. When she went to turn the handle, it hardly budged--okay, Colleen tried twisting it again and got nothing, then used both hands to wiggle it, closing her eyes because she felt that binding panic coming back and was almost sure this was nothing. Except the door wasn't actually locked (making this all the more bizarre), and when she glanced absently over her shoulder, there Ozzy was, sitting a mere foot away from her, and a tad more sinister-looking than before, or so it seemed.
"Devil cat," she muttered in Japanese, and right then, the lights began to flicker, and a low, guttural growl sounded simultaneously behind her. "...No." It was way too early for this. Colleen gripped the knob and yanked the door back, a few screws and pieces clattering to the ground as she swung it open and left the knob dislocated from its socket to hurry out before her obviously evil cat could pounce and crawl down her throat. And maybe the overgrown furball wouldn't, but she was not taking any chances. Colleen threw on some shoes and a coat, grabbed her katana and whatever else that was important and left the apartment feeling unsettled. She was wide awake now too, for sure, might as well go for a stroll and head somewhere that sold omamori. Colleen stepped into the cold, wet streets and pulled out her phone to text Misty and Jasper about this fun little incident.
Ozzy locked me inside my room. Thinking about getting rid of him. More details to come, I am not making this up. Going for a walk.
