There was no sense avoiding it any further and Jasper had to answer honestly, "Not really." Before she got too concerned, though, because it wasn't really something to fret over all at once, he kept Jan close by catching her hand but didn't kiss her in case she decided that wasn't entirely welcome. Instead, he fretted for a beat before giving her hand a pat instead, then shifting to suggest they have a seat. Now he was definitely wasting time and making it worse.
"Are you okay?" Stop it. "I'm really, really sorry for not calling or anything and not being around, and if you'll forgive me I promise to not be so neglectful again, but this was..." Pretty unique. Well, not unique enough, but Jasper didn't anticipate a third incident. He arranged himself rigidly on the edge of the couch, hands clasped in front of him, trying to work out the best way to show how not-important this actually was for Jan to worry about and also why he hadn't been communicative. "Please understand that it's under control now, so don't, I mean, however you feel about it is fine, but, and I know it sounds crazy, I was...compromised. By a vampire." Great, absolute mission failure.
