The news filtered through of this tragedy.
Characters: Wanda and Calvin and later, all the X-Men!
Setting: X-Mansion
Content: Calvin being Calvin :|
Summary: Wanda goes to the mansion seeking advice.
The mansion was the same as ever, austere and prim on the outside and teeming with the shrieks and laughter of children on the inside. The place was full of life and that was comforting. No matter what was happening in the world you could always count on Xavier's to be a safe haven. Self reliant and self contained, shutting itself off from the rest of the world, and she couldn’t blame them. Being an area full of mutants was difficult enough, but housing mutant children with little control over their powers could bring the wrath of the world down on them in a heartbeat if they didn’t mostly keep to themselves and practice their policy of isolationism. It helped them keep out from under the government’s thumb- something the Avengers hadn’t even managed. In the past it seemed like if they’d stayed out of the American government’s affairs and the government had, mostly, looked the other way. Wanda suspected that was going to change after Hammer’s announcement. Would the X-Men be exempt, would they go under S.H.I.E.L.D’s yoke? The Avengers were up in the air and Wanda wanted to know if there really would be any safe port in this oncoming storm.
Xavier was who she wanted to talk to about this, get advice, ask what he planned to do and what he thought she should do. Uncle Charles had always been a good source of wisdom in times of crisis but lately, in the midst of some of the worst crises of Wanda’s life, he was nowhere to be found. Go figure. Still, that didn’t change that Wanda had questions about how the X-Men intended to handle things. The school went on without Xavier, and so did the X-Men and they’d have to keep doing so one way or the other. Wanda would talk to Kurt or Kitty, find out what they thought, if they had any plans. This was like registration all over again. Only this time, Wanda definitely wasn’t on the government’s side.
“Hello?” she called out as she stepped into the X-Mansion’s foyer, listening to the muffled thumps of feet running above, of children shouting in other rooms. She moved on down the hall and paused in the common room with the t.v. when she saw the back of someone’s head, sprawled out on the couch. “Excuse me, I’m looking for-” Wanda stopped short as she came around the back of the sofa and caught sight of who was sitting there. Rankin. Oh lord.
