Playing these games wasn't getting them anywhere. They could have breezed passed the sphinx the moment it saw Wanda, and come in swinging here and avoided losing any organs for the exact same result. Magic was such bullshit, none of this was even real. If it was, their laws would make sense, Wanda and Tony would be dead, and the men with the animal heads wouldn't be fleeing their poor stage. Tony was still a step behind, the after-image of those crocodile jaws dripping over them and thick tongue rolling still blurring his vision, but it was nice that Wanda was having such a good time with her new nutcase buddies. It must have filled her heart with such orgasmic affirmation to see his weigh so heavy with all of the lies and scar tissue knotted across it.
He rolled and spat blood on the floor, heaved at the snot texture of it stringy with spit and dark, metallic tang, and felt the RT fall out of its mangled pit. It hit the ground with a dull ringing and felt like it was pulling his whole chest inside out with it, or maybe that was just bone fragments seeping forward through ragged knots of muscle and vein. Tony scooped up the repulsor, cradling it against his chest as he hauled onto his knees and sinking it back into the hole with an awful squelch as spidery fingers of the Iron Man stretched up his spine and dripped down his sides. The armor would hold everything where it was supposed to go, for now. It kept his limbs steady while he vaulted into the air, feeling the horrible weight in his bones and like a puppet in the Iron Man's control, which made him choke again on blood in his throat.
He said, "No," again, to neither Wanda nor the beast in particular, vision black around the edges as he fell onto the thing's skull. Spikes from his kneecaps and the heel of his hand drove through the bone, shattering it in three places and making the Devourer howl and throw its head back to shake Iron Man off. He was dug in now, though, only one arm wheeling as the crocodile lurched forward again and snapped at the Scarlet Witch. Tony blinked once, twice, but everything was black now and his head drooped forward.
