That...was easily the most surprising thing about the whole story and the moment the little guy appeared Jasper jumped, scooting down the couch a bit to give it room in case it had rabies or zombie or something. It didn't look so bad, though, and now he was regretting that reaction, mouth pulled into a self-deprecating grimace as he bowed to wiggle his fingers at the kitty enticingly. It seemed pretty happy to just eat and ignore him.
"You haven't been here?" he asked, still trying to get the cat's attention (maybe a poor option for parenthood, it seemed), though that should have been obvious enough now that he thought about it. If she had, she probably would have had that door fixed and everything, but where did she have to go? "I mean, obviously," he backpedaled, hoping she understood what he really should have asked and didn't mean to imply she was a poor housekeeper. Or that the place wasn't perfectly habitable. Jasper cleared his throat and tried again, "I mean, why wouldn't you be?" What was he even trying to say?
