"It's my island," he answered easily and settled himself into an armchair, holding the necklace in his hand up to a lamp and examining it for a moment before he abruptly stood again and crossed the room to stand before her. "I've brought you a gift," he told her with the ghost of a smile and the chain straightened itself, the oval dropping to hang as the necklace swayed gently from his fingertips. "You'll have to excuse my daughter's blood on it, I haven't had time to clean it off. I've been rather busy this afternoon, darling."
