His escape from the block of ice that he'd become ensconced in was slow at first but his own rage propelled him and he pulled magnetic energy from the earth around him into himself to strengthen his body against the sluggish trickling of his blood and the freezing of his limbs. With a roar the ice shattered and energy sparked around Magneto's body, raising the hair on his arms and popping in the air. He levitated up from the ocean's surface, teeth bared and a wild look on his face. This was too much. This would not be borne. Rankin would die tonight.
With a hiss from between his teeth like some wild animal, Magnus mimicked the Mimic, throwing himself forward using a combination of natural magnetic lines over the earth and a repulsive force between himself and the planet, pushing him forward at an unimaginable speed, rocketing towards his adversary, reading to tear his face apart with his bare hands. He hit Rankin like a bullet- or should have, if the other mutant hadn't suddenly disappeared in a puff of foul smelling dark smoke. Magnus pulled himself up short, chest heaving as he stared around in frantic rage. Wagner. The X-Men.
He felt their jet rise on the other side of the island but then it was just gone and he realized distantly that they'd turned on whatever technology they'd been using to repel his abilities when they'd arrived. The knowledge all came to him belatedly because his nervous system, overloaded with the power he'd been pulling through it combined with the blood he'd lost from his stomach wound, was rebelling. He closed his eyes and gritted his teeth, falling to the beach on his hands and knees and then struggling to his feet. He hadn't lost the battle technically but he'd certainly lost the war. This was not Magneto's shining moment.
